alcohol at a freshman party?? wow!

Question Posted Sunday August 5 2007, 11:58 pm

14/f/nebraska

ok i live in a pretty calm town, and i have been to PLENTY of parties before of people in my class.None of them have been with any alcohol or even spin the bottle. wel i just got invited to a party that is going to have alcohol. all my friends are going, and all excited about it being their first time. The thing is, i am not very comfortable being around alcohol. like i dont know, i just dont like it, it just seems to ruin a lot of peoples lives, especailly when we are only 14. i REALLYY want to go, but i REALYY dont want to drink. but i still want to be cool. waht should i do?

If I were you, I wouldn't go no matter how much I wanted to. I'm a straight edge kid, meaning no drugs, alcohol, smoking, or casual sex. Anywhos, you will end up drinking no matter how much you refuse. For all you know, you could be drinking spiked fruit punch. If you're not going to feel comfortable, don't go. And if the house gets busted for alcohol, you're in a whole friggin lot of trouble, too. And if your parents find out, wow. You're really screwed then. It's great that you don't want to drink alcohol and you should be proud of that. If you want to be cool, do NOT drink alcohol. Underaged drinkers [esp around 12-16] are more likely to become alcoholics when they grow up. Nothing cool about that. Nothing cool about drinking and becoming wasted and rotting your brain away. Get the drift that I'm trying to get it through your head that drinking doesn't make you at least a bit cool? Good. Don't go if you don't want to drink. But if you feel the need to go, find someone among your friends & make a promise with him/her that you won't drink nor won't let the other drink. Keep your drink in your hands at all times and don't let someone pour it for you. Try to drink from bottles that haven't been opened.

If you're not going to feel comfortable then don't go, but if you do end up going DON'T drink. A whole bunch of fourteen year olds drinking does not look cool. It looks really bad to me. I think the people that don't drink seem a whole lot cooler and smarter.

If you're going to feel uncomfortable then don't go. Make up an excuse and tell them you're busy. Say that you have to do something important with your family, or your mother/father will not let you.

You don't have to go to seem "cool." Honestly, if you miss out on this one party or a few more like this it is not going to ruin your reputation.

And if you really want to go, then just don't drink.

Hi.

You've pretty much alredy answered your own question. :] If you don't want to drink you shouldn't have to especially just to be cool. I mean lets look at this in a logical way... you get drunk, throw up, talk crap, maybe get into a fight, have some weird guys trying to feel you up because you being drunk means you'll be easy, possible do something with some guy which you regret later - can anyone explain to me how any of that makes you cool??? Personally, to me, that looks more like how to make a total ass of yourself as well as look really stupid in the process. :/

I used to go out with friends who drink heavily and still do at times and I've never been considered uncool. It's actually quite funny watching them all make jackasses of themselves and since I'm usually the sober one it means I get to keep an eye on them all to make sure they are safe and that they get home safe. At your age people think it's cool because it's a big taboo since everyone says you shouldn't do it. Or, as you said, there's the whole wanting to look cool and be 'accepted'. I mean a lot of girls seem to think loosing their virginity at a young age makes them look cool (no, it really doesn't). It's all a lot of rubbish. If one of your friends got drunk and ended up in bed with some weird guy she doesn't even know I seriously doubt she's going to feel very cool the next day.

You seem to have your head screwed on properly and know what you want already so if you want to go to this party and feel you're strong enough to be able to say NO then by all means go and have fun. Trust me you don't have to get drunk to have fun or be cool. If you do feel very uneasy about being around alcohol then I'd say go with your gut feeling and refuse to go. Either way though I think, considering you asked this question here, you know you want to say no and I think you have it in you to be able to do that. Either way though do let me know how you do and how the party is, if you go. And good luck. :]

well, the easiest thing to do is not go at all, if you feel that uncomfortable about the alcohol, maybe people wont think your cool but its them who isn't because alcohol can be really dangerous but if you do go then just try and resist it as much as you can.
