I'm 13 years old & female.
I've been really depressed lately..
Not when I'm around my family or friends,
so they don't notice it.
I try to be happy around them.
I just need help.
When I'm alone I get really sad & it gets hard for me to breathe..
& I don't even know WHY I'm feeling like this.
I don't want any websites or hotlines.
I just need to do something to help myself.
Any advice?

do you know what is making you depressed??
if you dont then you should talk to a friend whenever you feel depressed they may be able to tell you what is upsetting you and you yourself can figure it out if you dont want to talk to a friend have a chat with your doctor he/she should be able to recommend what is best for you or you could talk to your school nurse/counseller/mentor basically anyone who is there to help..
hope this helps

RATZY answered Friday August 3 2007, 6:25 am: Alright now, first thing what is making you depressed? do you know what it that makes you feel depressed? (it will be helpful to know what is causing your depression, and once you know what it is, you can find ways to over come it)
i'm sorry, but the only way i could help you is if i knew why you get depressed?
just try to focus on positive things, and try to be happy, what makes you happy? comedy things might help cheer you up. or you can focus all your anger and energy on other activities say like cooking, painting, writing, drawing, anything you can think of to release your depression.
maaulism answered Friday August 3 2007, 5:34 am: I'm just going to keep this pretty short. I think that you should tell your parents how you feel and why you feel it. It's normal for teenagers to feel depressed sometimes but if its constant, I don't think that's normal. If you are to scared to tell your parents how you feel, then tell a friend. They really help. christina answered Friday August 3 2007, 4:32 am: I've been in that exact same boat, so you're definitely not alone. I've been suffering with this since I was about 12-13, so that's about 3-4 years for me.
Depression is a hard thing to overcome without the proper medical attention. You can TRY to overcome it, but chances are, you won't. Although you want to hide it, I suggest you tell someone so they can get you help. No one should have to deal with depression. It can really mess you up, so I really hope you get the proper help.
Until you decide to do so, there are things you can do right now. Whenever I was depressed, I turned to music. It took me a while to let people in, so music was my outlet. I would listen to it around the clock, simply because it was something I loved, and it cheered me up. To this day, music is still what helps me out. If you don't want to turn to music, try writing/drawing/painting. Anything creative can calm you & make you feel whole. I'm not exactly a Van Gogh or an anime artist, BUT I am a good writer, and by writing a lot, I only got better. Writing is a good outlet too because you can vent your feelings in anyway you want without causing any type of damage to yourself & it's a release.
Other ways to help cope with the overwhelming feelings of depression are to spend time with friends. You may pretend to be happy around them, but friends can help in more ways than you think. You should talk to your friends about your problems. Do you have a best friend that's almost like a brother/sister? If so, talk to them. Chances are, they can help you out & you'll be glad you did. When I actually decided to let people in, the first person I turned to was my best friend. I was too scared to get myself help [I was cutting, too] & she got it for me. Because of her, I am who I am today, and I wouldn't be this strong without her.
If you don't feel like talking to friends or family, I'll be glad to talk with you. I'm not a trained professional, and I don't know the best ways to help, but I can try my hardest to see fit that you get the help you need. If you'd like to talk, all of my information is on my column. Good luck! [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]
stephanieXsunshine answered Friday August 3 2007, 4:09 am: Ive def. been there and done that.
every typical teenager goes through depression.
and every teenager has different ways to solve it.
What I did was spoil myself.
i had no idea what was bothering me so i couldnt exactly fix something i knew nothing about.
So instead I did things that made me happy.
1. blast my music and dance around
2.ate tons of icecream.
3.went to the movies.
4.did a self-makover.
