okay my dad has the same problem. i hate it too. we are trying to make him quit but there is nothing you can do. just try and talk to him about your fears. also have him go to the docter and get an xray of his lungs. it might scare the erge to smoke out of him. ]
Unfortunately, all you can do is talk to him about it. Tell him that you are scared of losing him to lung cancer, and that you would really support him quitting. Ask him to stop for his family. If he realizes that it effecting more people than himself, he will be more inclined to stop. Also, explain to him that the secondhand smoke is harming the rest of your family. That is really all you can do, because ultimately, the decision is his and hid alone.
Good Luck.

Sit down and have a conversation with him, and don't be afraid to tell him flat out "I don't want you to die." Tell him you want him to be there at your graduation/wedding/birth of grandkids. I'm not saying to cry and plead just for the show of it all, but most people respond to a passionate argument. It is never too late to quit. Find something you two can do together that will take his mind off smoking - which also includes lowering stress.
I'm sure its in the back of his mind anyway if you just lost a family member to lung cancer. He's just scared to do anything about it. Like a lot of people, he'll just ignore it and hope that it'll fix itself. Its a big pain to quit, but the rewards you get from quitting overshadow the struggle it took to get there. ]
unfortunately no.
don't take his cigs, or anything like that, because, he'll just go out and buy more. and thats more $$ wasted.
it's his choice.
just try not to be around him while he's smoking because second hand is no joke. ]
