Help With Website for Teens

Question Posted Tuesday July 17 2007, 7:58 pm

I need some help with my website, which is for teenagers.

Can you please look at it and see if there is anything that I can change, because for some reason, when most people visit the website, they leave right away, and I want to know why and how I can make my website better.

Here's the link: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Thank You :)
Mariah

Alright, I checked out your website. Sorry if this sounds kind of harsh. It's too plain, you need to jazz it up. You need a fun background and make it more colorful with a fun setup. If I were just going on there, I wouldn't be too interested in staying on it. It doesn't look like there's anything to do. You should have previews of stuff before people sign up, instead of just listing what's there to do after you sign up. Make the list more colorful and fun looking. You can have pictures of celebrities on there, that makes it more fun. It'll draw more people in if they see an idol on the site. If you want to see more ideas, visit magazine websites like www.seventeen.com or [Link](Mouse over link to see full location). Those kinds of websites draw teenagers in because they're colorful and have all the topics that interest teenagers.

To be honest with you, it looks like one of the fake websites you get sometimes when you misspell the site name, so perhaps people think it's one of those.

You have no meta tags in your source code, so even if you have submitted it to search engines (you HAVE to submit to see real benefits) then the search engines dont know what to look for. Fill your meta tags with descriptive words such as "teens" "make up" or whatever else your site has.

You need a catchy logo on the top of your page as well - it lets people know you're serious and looks far more proffessional.

You need more images, or basically something to look at. If it's supposed to be for teens, then it needs to be bright and colourful, with plenty going on.

Your images need ALT tags to comply with international standards regarding disability and equality (so that blind people who may be browsing your site know that theres a picture there, and not just a blank space) - and no, I'm not joking, they have specialist software. Try wwww.w3.org - they have a test to see if your code complies.

Your terms and conditions also need revising as they're easily open to interpretaion and using your first name without your last is worthless.

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location) that page has an entirely different layout to the rest, and gives the impression you've left the site.

Would it be possible to offer a trial membership whereby you don't actually need to register? From the bits people are allowed to see there's nothing really to grab attention and motivate people into signing up. Generally people are lazy and won't sign up unless they really have to or if they urgently need something.

Why did I need to click 3 links to become a member? That means people may be finding it difficult to find the signup page as well. Also your vacancies list is a little excessive dont you think, but tat's irrelevant.

I'm very sorry if this mini-review came across as harsh, but hopefully you'll take on board what I'v esaid and it'll help improve your site :)

maybe it's just my internet, but i highly doubt it but.. you have nothing to do on the page. you say you have movie reviwes, beauty 101, ect. but i don't see links to it, ANYWHERE. and if you need to become a member to read that sort of things, that is what is turning people away.

**i had the exact same critique for the website as the people who gave advice to your question after i posted. when i get a rating that is below my standards, i think i should atleast get a reason as to why i got the 3.**

I think the site is a great idea! I think you just need more advertising and a better layout. Don't get me wrong, the layout isn't bad, but it seems kind of plain & not really eye catching. Different fonts, colors, etc. will really spicen it up & make things more interesting. Also, accessing different parts of the website doesn't seem easy. You have to look for things & even though that may not seem like a lot, if you're looking to grab someone's attention, it will make your popularity go down. If you had big links for people to click that can take them to different parts of your site, it will make them stay longer & look around more. Design is a large part of a site becoming successful. It has to be eye catching & trendy. You're on the right track though. If you ever need any help, leave me an inbox. I do a lot with advice & HTML [layout design] & had a few sites myself.

-hope that helped!♥
