they mean the same thing. basically contest/layout/quotes/etc. sites have codes, and another site has a code too. they post the other's code advertising the other persons site in a bulletin. it's basically a way to get word of your site around and to get more friends.

i guess that s4s can have two meanings.
i've never heard of it used at "sign for sign" before, but i know that MOST sites use it as "support for support"
support for support means that each sites make themselves a code that when posted in a bulletin it advertises their site. support codes normally include the sites name, picture, and a link so you can add the site. this is just a way for sites to get more friends. so support for support means that each site will post the bulletin for each other to help get friends for each other.

s4s means sign for sign. so like if you have a compnay or something youd want a sign for someone would make you one, then you'd have to make them one.
w4w is whore for whore.(the person below me explained it exactly how i would so im not gonna tell you again)

s4s means "sign for sign" Like you make a person a sign and they make one for you.
w4w is "whore for whore" You post a bulletin asking all your friends to add a person, and they do the same thing for you. "Whoring" is getting as many adds as humanely possible by advertising your profile, basically.
