School is starting in like less than a month...
and the cross country team is going to start training really soon. The thing is.. out of about the 200 kids in my class NOBODY is doing cross country because the coach is an ahole.
Plus, i have to run 3 MILES this year if i do it. And i cant stand the coach at all either. I dont do any other sports..i mean i love basketball but isnt it really hard to make the team in highschool?
I've already got running shoes, but my mom said we can return them if we need to. Do most people do sports in highschooL?? Cuz if i dont do cross country i will still go to the health club and run anyway...i just wont have the stupid coach. I would try out for the basketball team but our class is HIGHLY competitive in the sport and theres NO WAY i would make it. The only reasons i would do cross country is to be healthy, and to have a sport when trying to go to college. But i would hate having to run alone, and the coach is completely HORRIBLE.
Additional info, added Tuesday July 17 2007, 8:35 pm: So do you think i should do cross coutnry?? is it worth it?
I dont think the coach is an ahole because he pushes people. Its because he was making comments about a good friends butt...and yes,, i have known him for a while.. I really admire people who can run like that. and besides the sport doesn't last that long anyways.. like what 2 monthes? you can put of with him for that long
and I would say go out for basketball.. I know at my school which is pretty big (its a AAAA school which sports wise thats the highest you can be ranked size wise) and everyone basically make the freshman bball team and sometimes they even need 8th graders because there aren't enough players for the freshman team and for the jv team.. try it its worth a shot... whats the worst that can happen you try out and don't make it. Freshman basketball is nothing like Varsity basketball and is great for newcomers
Also try things like winter indoor track and spring track
just do something.. 1 it gives you an activity to put on your college application and 2 people that do sports tend to me more organized overall and have better time management not to mention they are in better shape! [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]

Some people do sports in highschool, while others might do band or dance or choir, or absolutely nothing. i would try xc out, if you absolutely hate it, then don't do it. i hope this helps. =]

Anyway, if you can handle dealing with the coach, biting your tongue when you're angry, etc. then go for it. Don't let a jerk stop you from doing what you want.
Are you going to be a freshman in high school? If so, go ahead and try out. You could possibly make the JV team and work your way up to varsity. Even as a sophomore you could try out. If you're a junior or older and you don't think you could make varsity I wouldn't bother. To me it's embarrassing to be on jv when you're a junior, but it's nothing compared to being a senior. Most teams don't allow seniors on jv anyway.
If you think you could do all right in basketball then it doesn't hurt trying out, right?
Same with cross country.
Is your cross country coach the same as just the regular track coach? If not, I'd just try out for track. You can still do activities such as the 2-mile and it may not be as much running, but track practice will keep you in shape.
Did I suggest anything worth doing? I'm not sure because I don't know much about your school. My school is pretty competitive in sports. We're a 4a team in most sports so it's a pretty nice rep.
Anyway, I hope it works out for you.
Yes in high school a lot of people do sports. Especially if it's a really small or really big school. [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
