my acne isnt as bad as some people, but i am CONSTANTLY broken out. i cant remember the last time i had a clear face. ive used practically everything and nothing works. well, some stuff works for like a week or two but stops working after that. ive tried clean and clear, proactive, murad, clearisil, biore, neutrogena, st.ives apricot scrub, cetaphil, noxzeema, clinique 3-step, i mean i cant even list every brand ive tried!
ive gone to the dermatologist and they gave me differin & duac. i had to use it for about 6 months and it only worked for about a month.

Then put a dab of this Neutrogena stuff on, that's a concealer but for acne (it doesnt say that on the package, but it really is) and it's in a small tube and it' the color of your skin and you just put it on every pimple and rub it in. Then put on whatever make up. But what REALLY helps is laying out in the sun without sunscreen on your face. It does wonders to acne. Then at night I just wash my face with a wet cloth and put some more neutrogena stuff on and now my face is clear :) [ Roxeh101's advice column | Ask Roxeh101 A Question ]

uisforukelele answered Monday July 16 2007, 9:42 pm: okay, next time you go to the dermatologist ask about retin-a (stronger form of differin) and evoclin, which is a foam that i use in the mornings. here is a quick help: smear toothpaste all over your face. i'm not kidding. really rub it in. and leave it for a few minutes. wash that off. i'd say use the toothpaste at night, but if you wake up before school or whatever and that isn't good enough, do it again by all means. also, drink a freaking ton of water. eight glasses at least. that always helps to clear up skin. you will have to pee a lot, but it will make up for it. also, before you put medicine on your face, get a hot rag and wipe your face down. supposedly the heat opens up your pores and the medicine enters your pores better or something. right now i just started using a biore scrub and it has worked so well for me. but before i was just washing my face using my fingers... when i got that scrub, i started washing my face with my fingers AND a rag and it really helps to get the nast off. also, if you really want to cut down on acne (and this can also help you lose weight) stop drinking soft drinks. every time you reach for a soft drink, drink a glass of water instead! my sister used to drink cokes all the time until she figured out that they make her break out. so examine your diet. is there something that you eat/drink a lot of? you might want to consider cutting back on sugar too a little bit. but definitely, if nothing else, toothpaste and drink water! also, i think neutrogena makes a toner for your face- you use it after you wash your face at night or whatever and it gets the excess dirt off. you would not believe how unclean our faces are even after we wash them. for the first couple of days when you're doing all this stuff, you might want to wash your face like three times a day, or however many times you can fit in. are you still on differin? when i was on it, i only use it monday wednesday friday, but sometimes when my acne got really bad i would use it every single night. i know your dermatologist won't like that but if you're desperate, it can't kill you. i hope things get better for you! Floridagirl1821 answered Monday July 16 2007, 8:28 pm: Mine wasnt serious but it was constant! I feel your pain, my face has scars now =(
I use Differin and for the 1st month it made my face so BAD but then it cleared up except for a small one or two but I have scars now!
Mine routine is pretty simple, I wash my face in the morning with a gentle foam cleanser (Estee Lauder but you could find something at a drugstore like Neutrogena) and put a skin refinisher on my face (to smooth it) and a light mositurizer with SPF and then my foundation.
At night I was my face again with the same foaming cleanser and apply Differin. I also pull my hair up after I do that and also when Im at home.
But Im going to the dermatologist so I might get something new to try but differin is working for me.
Drugstore products didnt work for me, so the first prescription I got was BenzaClin. (Then it stopped working and I got Differin) You might have to go back to a doctor and keep trying something until you find one. Or maybe use it for a little longer and see what happens. Im sure your dermatologist has treatments used to treat acne and then use a product along with it. However, DONT use too many products, it will dry out your skin and make it worse!
LM answered Monday July 16 2007, 7:20 pm: Okay, my routine involves a lot of the things you mentioned. Your problem may be that you were doing TOO much at once, and not sticking with one thing long enough. I consider my acne vastly improved- pretty much nothing besides Accutane CURES acne, just give it a few years and your hormones should even out and everything like that.
Twice a day I wash my face with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. I have combination skin and I use the one in the pump bottle. A few minutes later I use salicylic acid spot treatment (usually Clean and Clear Advantage). After this dries, I do my usual moisturizer and foundation. (I don't need concealer for acne anymore!)
At night I use the same face wash, but AFTER I use apricot scrub. Use the regular one, not the one for acne- it's less intense. Then I use Retin-A Micro every other night, since my skin is sensitive. You can get that from a dermatologist. On nights I don't use Retin-A, I use clindamycin- again, from the derm. Differin doesn't work for everyone, so ask your derm for something else. Retin-A worked great for me, and works to actually prevent acne before it starts. Woohoo!
I take cephalexen too. It's an antibiotic, and nowhere NEAR as intense a treatment as Accutane. Short of allergic reactions, the biggest side effects are temporary tooth discoloration [and that goes away] and taking it if you're pregnant.
The biggest thing I've learned is that picking at your zits makes them worse. It may feel as though you're the only one with skin this bad, but you'd be surprised at how many people have acne & cover it up. Plus, acne's always worse to the person who has it. Don't stress- literally. Stress causes breakouts! Most teenagers have it, so don't let it bother you! Good luck with your skin! :) [ LM's advice column | Ask LM A Question ]
Cux answered Monday July 16 2007, 7:05 pm: I haven't dealt with SERIOUS acne, but I am just like you in that I've always got acne on my face.. and it never seems to go away.
I know this will sound really odd- but I found that Lemon Juice works really well [though I haven't used it in quite awhile]. All you have to do is apply some on the "infected" areas [i.e. where your acne is] with a Q-tip.. and apply in a thin layer. This works best at night- and you shouldn't touch, poke, scratch, etc. your face, as the oils on your fingers and hands will stop the effect of the lemon juice on your acne. It really does reduce the size/shape of your acne. Hope that helps, as it is an inexpensive way to deal with unwanted acne.
