well i tried sushi for the first time a couple days ago. well, it was a california roll. my mom (im 13/f) doesnt really want me to eat raw foods, but idc as long as its fresh. i get the food at some place near a library i volunteer at in the summer, so i can just get some sushi from the restaurant without her knowing. anyways, what other things besides california rolls (i liked it, it tasted great with the soy sauce!) should i try? i didnt know what to get when i first went there so i went with the lady who owns the restaurant's opinion. so she got me the california roll and next time she says i should try like some kinda shrimp roll thing. is that good? and what other things are really good and wont make me sick if its raw? im not sure how some foods like.. octupus tastes like, but if its good.. then idk. how about sashimi? is that good? i also want other suggestions. and i dont want the food to be too expensive. i only have a budget of about 10 bucks, lol.
Additional info, added Monday July 16 2007, 7:41 pm: also what does onigiri taste like? is it good? im really like the japanese culture even though im african lol
personally sashimi is good! i prefer salmon or tuna.. and as far as good rolls.. let me tell you about one then you can usually create your own..
it has two tempura shrimp cucumber avocado and crab salad (crab mixed with mayo) on the inside, with rice on the outside, salmon and tuna, then it has alittle bit of hot and sweet sauce over it. it goes about $9.00 but it seriously has alittle bit over everything and tastes AMAZING! that was the first thing i ever tried sushi wise. bombbbb.
try something new everytime you go! read about the special rolls they have and see what ones you like!

my friend, sushi is my favorite food.
i love the california roll. that is still one of my favorite rolls. if you have a wide range of taste, i'd say try the king crab roll if that is available in your area. & the shrimp tempura. sushi doesn't make you sick if you get it from the right places.
where do you live? if you live in new jersey / pennsylvania / new york area, i can really tell you some good sushi restaurants to go to!
i'm sorry, i'm not familiar with onigiri at all. you sure it's spelled that way?
if you aren't sure about something, try asking the waiter for her opinion. most restaurant workers know what they're talking about.
octopus tastes REALLY good. oh oh, try the spider roll! you'll love it.
