Since you want to go darker I would go for a shade that is about 2 to 3 shades darker than your natural haircolor. Then I would add some lowlights and some highlights, but scatter them all over and make them natural. So the lowlights would be about 2 shades darker then the color you dye your hair, and the highlights would be 2 shades lighter. You have red pigments in your hair so I would go with a more carmel colored highlight. Now for haircuts I would suggest side sweep bangs for you. That look you could pull off easily and it changes your look completely. Since you have had long hair, I would suggest cutting it to about shoulder length and have it layered randomly (tapered all over the place). It will add more volume to your hair. With this kind of hair cut you can still put your hair up because it won't be too short and you have millions of different hair styles you can try with it. Hope I helped hun and if you have anymore question note my inbox and I will be happy to help :)
