Sometimes I don't understand or hear what people have said to me. What could I say besides "Pardon" because that's a bit old fashioned? I also don't like the phrase "Excuse me" because it sounds as if I have been offended. Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Really now, I don't care if my feedback score was averaged out as 1, I'm here to help people. If people don't like my advice, that's there opinion. But my advice really wasn't that far off from the others before me. All I'm lacking is irrelevant fluff like "I hope I helped". I really dont care about your problems, because they're so minor compared to everything else going on. But I was still trying to help, and deserve to be respect like the all of the other columnist on this site.
If you don't want to sound uptight you could say "Huh?" or "What?" because that is commonly used, and is on the level of slang. You won't be considered old, or proper. I gurantee, because this is what I say when I don't catch one someone says. If your attitude isn't shit, then no one really cares if you say excuse me, because they understand what you meen.
Bravo for lacking the ability to elaborate and think outside of the box a little bit. The world really is a frightful place when my peers are using words such as pardon, as they sound "old fasioned". Bravo, indeed.
I hope I helped, but don't bother giving me a better rating. Even you didn't even leave a comment with that mediocre number I would have been satisfied, but the opinion of someone who doesn't know how to respond when they don't hear what is said isn't valued by me. I dont need to help people on this site, including you. Though some people need help once in a while, and I'm doing it out of the goodness of my heart because I know life can be rough. My attention could be focused on someone else, other than you. Especially with a question like this.
hotpotato answered Sunday July 15 2007, 1:57 pm: Also, don't forget "Sorry, I didn't hear you", "Sorry, I didn't catch that", "Could you repeat that?", "Sorry. What did you say?"
, "Could you say that once more",
