parrots

Question Posted Thursday July 12 2007, 12:24 pm

I have been saving money to buy a large bird. I am looking for a parrot, but not some parakeet/cocatail type bird. What I am looking for is a bird that is legal to keep in California, and one that is smart, affectionate, and is known for personality. I don't really care if its ugly or loud (I have two parakeets at home.. AAAHH!... but I can deal with it). Also, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO TALK.

My price range is 600 dollars. I am a big fan of Sun Conures, and African Grays (although unfortunately I can't afford one, they're like two-three thousand dollars.)

Any personal bird favorites within my price range?

Thanks

look for macaws or cockatoos...they're legal and make wonderful pets...my aunt has one of each. You should be able to find one in your price range too!

I don't know about big birds.. um macaws are good. There's a varied price range. I don't know if buying from a breeder may be cheaper or not. Hopefully you can search the local newspaper for pets people are giving away? Mini macaws too seem big-ish. Some details here:

This has nothing to do with anything but I have four parakeets at home! :D What colors are yours?

Cockatoos are pretty cool, and you may be able to find one in your price range. You'll want to shop around, because some range at over $1000.
