ammo answered Saturday July 7 2007, 11:47 am: Other than the poor quality and such I think they don't really effect any one single person but more on a larger scale. Pirate movies has decreased the number of people willing to pay to buy a movie, £15 for a retail DVD or £5 for a pirate copy without the fancy DVD case, which would you pick?
All companies involved lose money from pirating/illegal copying. The claim that piracy funds terrorist activities and groups seems a little far fetched and I have personally never seen this claim proved in even the slightest. When was the last time you saw a pirate dvd seller armed with an assult rifle? That's what I though.
It's the same with music as well - publishers lose money. The argument most have put forward is that if they push out quality stuff people will be more inclined to buy the original. For example spending £15 or so on a cd which has one decent track on it... would you just download the track your after or buy the cd? It's the same with movies too - people spend money to go cinema only to come out thinking what a pile of garbage and a waste of money on a ticket (which are not exactly cheap). The piracy industry also effects cinemas. Each cinema has to buy the movies they want to show. As movie companies lose more and more money through piracy they keep bumping up their prices. As their prices to cinemas go up cinemas in return also bump up ticket prices so they can make that money, as well as profits, back. It all loops into a circle.
With me personally, I've personally never brought a pirate movie. I have a friend who buys them on a regular basis but I will ONLY ever watch them if it's an obscure movie (one that went directly to DVD) or some movie I've never heard of or interested in. Anything else (like movies I WANT to see at the cinema) I will avoid until I get to the cinema. To be honest, for example, when watching a CG/Special Effects heavy movie it looks better on the big screen as opposed to watching it in very poor quality with crap sound on a pirate where usually the beginning or the very end is cut or you can hear the guy filming it talking. :/ [ ammo's advice column | Ask ammo A Question ]
superstarblue89 answered Saturday July 7 2007, 11:46 am: they don't affect you at all..they're just illegal...the quality is terrible (it's much better to pay for the DVD)...and if your caught with them you can be fined some serious cash...and if your caught selling them you also get to go to jail...so if I were you I'd just avoid them all together [ superstarblue89's advice column | Ask superstarblue89 A Question ]

Pirate dvds are bad because
-it is illegal
- and they are not as good as the real deal, going to the cinema or buying the actual dvd.
If you are caught with them I am pretty sure you will be in trouble with the police.
Dont sell them.Dont buy them.Dont watch them. [ mariahwannabe's advice column | Ask mariahwannabe A Question ]
