scams?

Question Posted Friday July 6 2007, 7:18 pm

You know those pop-ups that say "win a free TV?"
How are they scams? Like what happens if you sign up for one?

It's a scam because they con you into buying something you don't need. If you do end up getting what they sold to you, it'll be of a lesser quality & it'll be a waste of money. You usually don't get the product though.

Not only do they con you into wasting money, but they make you give them personal information AND they give your computer tons of spyware which messes it up, gives it viruses & makes it slow.

Don't click the pop-ups, don't play the little games & don't give any personal information to anyone.

These pop ups are created by the "man" (big business like target, sony, wal-mart, etc.) they enter you into a fake sweepstakes, where they require you to give up personal information, and infect your computer with spyware (programs used to gain credit card numbers, and more personal information) They use this information to better target the age group to which they are selling you an item, ending up with me pop ups for everyone else.

often they will give your computer a virus, and sometimes they put your info on a mailing list and send you junk. But i can almost gaurente you if you sign up for one you will not get what it says...I wouldn't recomend signing up for any.

The scam is usually that you have to buy something, or you have to refer 10 friends, who also buy something, and usually the something isn't very good at all.

As a rule, if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.

You can find out more about your particular scam by reading the Terms and Conditions.
