Some people say you can't only lose fat in one spot so crunches won't make your stomach flatter. Others say that they know people that lost 20 pounds from doing a lot of crunches. I don't get it. Do crunches make your stomach flatter or not?
If you have stomach or belly fat, doing crunches won't help anything. They only build muscle. If you want to lose the fat around your midsection you need a lowfat diet, and do a lot of cardio. Both burn fat, which will cause the fat in your midsection to dwindle.
Crunches are good for people who don't need to lose that much weight around their midsection and want to tone up. I've read that crunches aren't recommended to people who have a lot of weight to lose in their stomach until after they have lost the weight.
It honestly depends on how your stomach is shaped. If you need to tone up you do crunches, if you need to burn fat around your stomach do cardio and a low fat diet first and then incorporate crunches.
