Does my best friend like the guy I like?? Sorry it's so long

Question Posted Wednesday June 27 2007, 2:10 am

Ok, So I became friends with this girl "Sara" recently, and I'd say we're pretty much best friends now. I've really, really liked this guy "Joe" for over two years. Anyways, Sara always hangs out with him. She'll call him and ask for rides to parties (which, I'm not really a Partier). And in gym class[I'm in the 11th grade btw, and he just graduated] she would always do stuff to get him to react to her with some comment. I don't think he likes her though. Many others agree that she flirts with him..A LOT. We even went to the movies with Joe and his friend, hoping I'd get a chance to hang out with him [so she said], and she sat by him AND talked to him the whole time. She claims she doesn't like him and that she's "IN LOVE" with my long time[like whole life] friend "Chad" [he just "does stuff" with her/uses her], but sometimes I doubt her truth about Joe. She's VERY flirty and loves attention from boys (not to be mean, but it's true.)So can someone PLEASE give me there's opinion and advice!?. Sorry again it's so long.

Just to Add, I have confronted her several times, which is why I get so irritated with her..

I've been in this situation before.
I did the same, confronting my best friend that I really liked him and to back off.
Unfortunately it backfired in my face & ended badly. They both ended up making out
I've been best friends with her for 11 years & now we hardly talk. But I have to admit, I regret not putting my foot down in my own territory

I suggest you get closer to him before she does

Well, there could be a chance that she DOES like him and she's just very scared to tell you, but if you confronted her so many times, maybe not. She would've given up and told you by now.

Maybe she's just boy-crazy and despite the non-crushness on him, she likes attention from every boy she see's. Wether or not, it's a crush of yours. I know some girls like that over here.

You should defently try to get some alone time with Joe though! Step up YOUR game, and go get YO MANN. :)) Because once he's taken [with you of course], she can't do that flirty shit anymore.

I have mixed feelings about this situation. If you were my friend, I wouldn't be intentionally flirting with the guy you liked; however, if I was a good enough friend to back off and you didn't make a move, I would probably resume flirting with him too.

I get the impression (based on the info you've given us) that you haven't made any attempts to be with him. Two years is a long time to be wanting someone from afar. It's time to stop wanting and start getting. You need to take a cue from your friend and be a little more aggressive.

Guys will never be able to read your mind. You need to be confronting him (instead of her, especially since she doesn't seem to care) and telling him how you feel. He might like you back and this problem can end happily.

Finally, are you sure this girl is your best friend? I can't imagine continuously doing something to hurt my best friend even though she told me it hurts her. You might want to find a new friend - someone who supports you and cheers you on - not someone who competes with you.

You should call her out in front of him. I know this sounds kind of mean but that may be the only way.
Be like "aww joe!! I think Sara may like you"

Then see how they both react to the situation.
But if you really like Joe, you need to step up and let him know! (if he doesnt already) Let him know your serious before he uses sara too.

I have a friend like that. She was total boy crazy. It seems like she knows that you like this guy joe. I would just confront her about being so flirty with him. How it makes you feel, and if she is a good friend she should understand. Best of luck =]
