RATINGS

Question Posted Wednesday June 20 2007, 1:10 am

okay so i recently gave advice to a guy.. and he gave me a 3! now my question is..

giving advice to someone usually means your giving them YOUR opinion on the matter that their having troubles with..correct? so when someone actually gives advice and by giving i mean actually tried, or applied themselves as best they could should deserve a fair rating.. for someone who just says "that sucks" well okay they dont deserve the best of a rating if even one because thats just there opinion that gives you nothing to concider or anything.

its my first three i've ever recieved on this site and i've done this for about 2 years now..

its just a three i know but i mean i really dont think i deserved that 3.

anyone else agree?

i mean please all opinions are welcome i just want to either be put in my place or something because i just dont understand.. and ill share my advice for anyone whos interested in what it is i said so they can see what they think..

thank you very much. (:

A 3 is a good, and fair rating. It means you have answered their question with a satisfactory answer.

People have a bad habit for handing out 5's for one liner answers, such as "Yah I would do it!" A 5 should only be given when someone answers the question with a lot of thought, effort, and detail.

A 3 means good advice and there is nothing wrong with a rating of 3. More people would get them if more people rated correctly. :) A 5 should be very rare.

I will give you a pointer because more people are rating down for this. No capitals at all in your question. If you answer that way, you may be rated down. Some (not you) also use no punctuation at all. Some will rate you down for that. Abbreviated text talk will lower your rating too. Not that you are doing that.

I know most advice is someones opinion. But if it doesn't help the other person then they can rate you down for it. If you get a 1 or a 2 file an abuse report. Sometimes we might change it a little. Very rarely will we change a rating to anything higher than a 3.

Just do your best to help. Don't worry about the rating. Most of our better columnists do not carry
a total 5 rating. They give honest answers (without being rude. People rarely want to hear the truth. They just want someone to agree they are right.

So, if you don't kiss their little bottoms, you won't have a column rating of 5. It
isn't a big deal, it means you are doing your job
as a columnist. :)
