My asthma is exercise-induced as well as induced by allergies.

I used to do swimming, but I found that my endurance just wasn't as good as the others. If you start feeling your chest tighten, stop.

I don't think you'll have to quit swimming, unless their expectations surpass your capabilities. What worked for me was finding a sport I could do. Look for something that incorporates a small amount of cardiovascular activity, but not enough of it to make you out of breath. Low-impact exercises like tai chi and walking are great, and if you're looking for something more strenuous, I did karate for 7 years and had very few problems with it... so that's something you might want to look into.

Just a warning; I'm assuming they gave you Ventolin (the blue puffer)? Don't overdose on it, because it'll make your heart race and you get really shaky. Trust me on this one ;)

I have sports induced asthma also. The inhaler should work when you exercise. Do not push yourself. You know your limits so when you feel that you went past them, stop whatever you're doing. I usually take my inhaler before I exercise so I don't have to stop during. It's gotten better over the years because I've gotten used to it. You should go back to the doctor & talk to her about it. There's also a pill you can take every morning that helps with allergies. It's called Singular. If it is strictly sports induced asthma though, it may not help. Singular is for allergies. You shouldn't have to quit swimming though. Until you can get to your doctor, try taking one shot before & see how it goes. If you still feel short of breath, take another & try to keep going. You should never take more than 2 shots in a 4 hour period. Watch yourself though. Even though you may enjoy swimming, it would not be worth a trip to the hospital because you overdid it.

-hope that helped!♥
