Question Posted Tuesday June 12 2007, 11:20 am

okay so i got totally fried two days ago. like my whole back is seriously as red as a firetruck. i've put burn relief crap on but it's not helping. i've been in highly severe pain for the past two days straight. it's gotten to the point where i can't move my arms without it hurting worse. does anyone know anything that will help me? anything at all. even if it's a litte thing that might not help or won't help much i will love you forever! thank you!!!

A nice cool bath or shower will ease the pain- temporarily. When your skin drys, it will feel just as hot as it did before, but it helps for some quick relief from the pain.
If you take a cool shower, be sure to try to keep the spray from going directly on the burnt skin, or it will hurt! Since it is your back, let the water hit your neck and shoulders and run down your back.
Now, this may sound silly, and I don't know if it will work on a sunburn-
Mustard, believe it or not, helps take the heat out of burns. I have burnt myself many a time on the stove and what not, and applying mustard actually does relieve the pain. Even when it drys on your skin.
Was I right? Sounds silly, doesn't it? But like I said, I don't know if it will work on a sunburn, because I have gone out of my way to avoid getting a sunburn for years now, but it may be worth a shot anyhow. Just smear on a thin coat. You will look like a slathered hot dog, but hey. If it helps, right?

I'm fair skinned, and I know your pain. I feel sorry for your misery, because I KNOW it is misery!

For really bad burns, I find that aloe vera doesn't quite do the trick. I use Solarcaine. It's a gel that has a topical anesthetic, so it numbs your skin.

Couple of things. Do you have an Aloe Vera Plant, the juice and gel inside the thick leaves can be a great relief for sunburn. I use it for small burns, all the time. The other thing I tried once, years ago and it worked wonders was, Take a hand full of tea bags, soak them in cool or even cold water until the water turns brown from the tea. Soak clothes in the tea and wring out and place on the burned areas.
Since it is your back, I hope you have someone to help you.
Vitamin A & Vitamin E will help you heal faster.
