i have all this work to do for biology and i dont understand what they are asking and how to solve it. can anyone explain what they are asking and solve some if you can??thank you!
1. Give the SI Base Unit an symbol for:
a. mass
b. volume
c. length
2. Give the Relationship Between These Quantities:
a. 1 decaliter= ? liters
b. 1 hectometer= ? meters
c. 1 milligram= ? grams
d. 1 decigram= ? gram
e. 1 centiliter= ? milliters
f. 1 hectogram= ? kilogram
3. Give the Relationship Between These Quanities:
a. 1 dam= ? m
b. 1hL= ? L
c. 1dg= ? g
d. 1 daL= ? hL
e. 1cg= ? mg
4. Write the "name" meaning:
a. 0.1 gram=
b. 0.01 meter=
c. 0.000001 liter=
d. 100 liters=
e. 1,000,000 grams=
f. 10 meters
5. Write the 'symbol' meaning:
a. 0.001 L
b. 0.1 g
c. 0.01 m
d. 10 m
e. 1000 g
f. 1,000,000 L
google metric conversion. all you do is move the decimal point. here's an example... say that you have to convert 10 kilometers to meters. because there are 1000 meters in a kilometer, you move the decimal point to the right three places to get 10,000 meters in 10 kilometers. if you're still having trouble, call a friend. theymos answered Friday June 8 2007, 5:47 pm: 1: the base units are the units that have no prefixes, like gram is to milligram.
a. gram
b. liter
c. meter
2: these are prefix conversions. You move the decimal depending on which prefix. Memorize this:
kilo ←3 k
hecto ←2 h
deca ←1 Da
<base> no movement
deci →1 d
centi →2 c
milli →3 m
The number to the right is how far you move the decimal, and in which direction, to get to the base. So:
a. deca is ←1, so 1.0 decaliter=10.0 liters(the decimal moved 1 to the right)
b.100
c. Mili is →3, so 1.0 milligram=.001 grams, the decimal moved 3 to the left.
d. 1 deci=.1 gram
e. The difference between centi and milli is →1, so it's 10 milliliters
f. difference between hecto and kilo is ←1, so it's .1 kilograms
3. This is the same as above, but using abbreviations. The abbreviations are on the list I just wrote.
4. Doing the opposite of #2
a .1g=1 decigram
b. .01m=1centigram
c. .0000001L=.1 microliter(but you probably don't need to memorize that.
d. 100L=1kL
e.1000000g=1megagram(you probably don't need to know that, either)
f.10m=1decameter
5. Combines #3+#4
a. 1mL(milliliter)
b.1 dg(decigram)
c.1cm(centimeter)
d.1dam(decameter)
e.1kg(kilogram)
f.1Mg(megagram, you don't need to know this)
