I'm not for medecations bt if you need them you need them because your brain doesn't make the right chemicals so don't feel bad if you have to take them.
Neuronautas answered Friday June 1 2007, 3:13 am: yeah I guess. But don't take them. They'll mess you up. Trust me. Deal with depression the natural way and stop trying to suppress your feelings. [ Neuronautas's advice column | Ask Neuronautas A Question ]

Well, what's going on in there, anyhow.
All beliefs aside, EITHER can prescribe them. It is just up to you to decide who you think would make the best choice for you. There are so many anti-depressants out there, and each effect people differently, and each have different side effects, some of which are rather unsavory. You don't want to have someone prescribe something just because it happens to be the hip new anti-depressant.
ALWAYS educate yourself on any prescription medicine before you actually take it, so you have an idea of what to expect in side effects. You can search it via the web, or better yet, ask your pharmacist.
Word of advice- ask how long the prescribed anti-depressant has been on the market. I wouldn't advise taking something new- request something that has been on the market for at least 5 years. Something new hasn't been used in the general public for long enough to know if there end up being any HARMFUL side effects. Very sad, but very true.
The lawyer ads on TV say a lot about such incidents of new meds that end up having harmful side effects... "If you took such and such a medication and now have such and such a disorder or illness from it, call us..."

That may be because they're not allowed to write a prescription for the drugs themslves, but it's more so likely because no doctor feels comfortable doing so without an expert opinion on the patient's emotional and mental state.
