Ok sorry if this is long,
i used to cut my wrists in 5th and 6th grade(im 13/f) but i stopped. Now im just really tired and hungry all the time. the only thing i do is play online video games and sleep and watch TV. My mom thinks im this happy kid and all, but i'm not. I've just been sad a lot i get headaches and chest pain and i wonder if i am depressed. My cousin is always being mean to me and calls me bad names. I feel like if i tell my mom i'll be failing her or something. Do you think im depressed or am i worried for nothing? and if i am, how would i tell my mom? or who else would i tell?
helpachick answered Tuesday May 29 2007, 3:13 pm: you can either start by telling someone, or start by trying to fix it yourself. im going to tell you how to travel down the second option's path. try to find some sort of exercise you can do every day. weather it be running, shooting hoops, or volleyball or softball or something like that...even just walking!, you need to do something to get you out of the house and doing something that is all around good for you. exercising makes you feel good too, and helps you think about a lot of stuff while your out there quite frequently, too. try hanging out with your friends more, or joining a youth organization of somekind, and/or lots of clubs and sports in your school. things to help you get yourself out there and enjoying things in life are one of the best ways to help you feel better. do that for quite some time, and see how far you get. i was like you once, and now even though i have other issues, i have found myself to be in general, very happy.

savethedramaforthestage answered Tuesday May 29 2007, 1:26 pm: Well I think you definitly need to talk to an adult you trust about this situation. In the end it will be for your own good. It is possible you are depressed or may have some other kind of chemical imbalance that only a doctor or physcologist can diagnose. If you dont feel comfortable talking to your mom by yourself you can always ask a school guidance counselor to help you with strategies. Plus sometimes your school may be able to offer you with services to help you with this problem. You are NOT failing your mother by telling her about this. You must tell an adult you trust becuase otherwise your condition will not get better and it could possibly worsen. Depression and other types of mental illness (this doesnt mean your crazy) are medical problems. If you broke your arm you would tell someone right?
I hope I helped let me know if you need any more help! [ savethedramaforthestage's advice column | Ask savethedramaforthestage A Question ]
