Dinner

Question Posted Saturday May 26 2007, 11:56 am

Ok well I'm going out on a date tonight. Its my first "real" date and we're going out to dinner. I know this kid fairly well and were pretty comfortable with each other, but we talk so much we kind of ran out of things to talk about. I really don't want this to be akward without anything to talk about, so any ideas?

Also, I know this is weird, but I HATE eating in front of people, especially someone I like. I don't know why, but I'm nervous about it. Again, I know this is strange, but I can't help it.

Well, you could talk to him about politics, what's going on in the world, and where you stand on certain issues. It's a good converstation starter; it's a good way to learn more about each other and show him that you know things, lol. But don't start arguing and getting angry with each other if you have political differences, though, haha.
Ask him what his favorite bands are, what his favorite song is, what he wants to do once he gets to college, etc.
If you really have nothing to talk about, just say something funny and random. Like, "did you know that Denzel Washington has a perfectly symmetrical face?" Yeah, weird, I know, but I say it alot when there are awkward silences and it actually brings up some interesting conversation, haha.
Since you're friends with this kid, you'll probably have more to talk about than you thought you would. Good luck. =)

as for the conversation, at first, just make small talk. maybe things like: school [teachers that you like or don't like], if school's almost out, talk about what you're going to do with the spare time [vacations, trips, swimming? etc.], sport, family, or just random stuff you see at the restuarant. if you think you can, if conversation gets dull, just say something randomly. such as "hm, well, what do you think about ____" or "let's talk about _____."

and then as for eating in front of him, be sure to cut your food into small bites, even salad if you get one. that way, you're less likely to look silly eating a huge bite or getting anything on your mouth. plus it exhibits good manners.

good luck (:
