A bowl of oats in skim milk is a great way to start the day (even if it doesnt taste of anything). Oats are low on fat (and the fat they do have is mainly polyunsaturated, which is great), and they have a high protein percentage for carbs. A favourite amongst sports people and bodybuilders.
Other things that are great for breakfast include whole wheat bread, fruit, eggs (in moderation), egg whites, cottage cheese, even some lean meat, etc.
In terms of calories and fat, you are probably better off intaking a richer meal at breakfast than at dinner. So I wouldnt cut back all that much for this meal, I would rather make sure the things you eat later in the day are kept in check. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]

What I like is a low calorie, low cholesterol option; I hardboil two eggs, take out one of the yolks (so I'm only eating one... that's where all the cholesterol is) and eat a piece of low-fat cheese with it.

I've never thought to look up why it is but I have been told by everyone who I had spoken to before (when I first started my healthy eating phase) said breakfast is really important.
I don't really do calories as I found it rather annoying so instead I stick to just eating healthy and it's been working fine. For breakfast ideally you'll want something filling but also low in fat and that which is not junk. I stick with a wheat based cerial with milk and fruit (instead of using any kind of sweetner). I usually slice up a banana to go on top of it and a couple of strawberries as well which all go together well and are indeed filling. Use low fat milk if you want and if you can stand the taste (as opposed to full fat milk) and have either a hot drink (I usually drink green tea) or a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice to go with it.
As I said I'm not sure about calories but it's all healthy and this way you're not avoiding the most important meal of the day. [ ammo's advice column | Ask ammo A Question ]
