South Beach diet

Question Posted Tuesday May 8 2007, 10:08 pm

19/F

Well, I finally decided to get off my butt and do something about my weight. I've always been fairly active, but since moving in with my boyfriend, I've gone up to around 200 pounds.

So I started the South Beach diet. I'm on my second day.

Thing is, I haven't been having cravings for food, but I have had some problems.

- Depression/Irritability
- Constant hunger
- Exhaustion
- Weakness

Is this normal (for the diet)? I'm ready to quit, if this continues.

Anyone else tried it and had the same sort of experience? Or have any words of encouragement?

Thanks!

hey, the South Beach Diet is really bad for you. All it does is cut out the carbs you need and can even dehydrate you.

your problems you've been having could be part of adjusting to the new diet (even though its only been two days).

if i were you, i wouldn't be on this diet. you should buy this book called "The Diet for Teenagers only". its really good, and gives you the information you need to loose weight. look for it at borders, barnes and nobles, or any other book store.

really, all you need to do is eat healthy. yeah, the south beach diet does cut carbs, but carbs can actually be good for you. it just depends on where the carbs are coming from.

if you have any more questions, feel free to leave me a message in my ibox :)

Depression could possibly be causes because you have some type of emotional attachment to food.

other than that, your symptoms sound pretty normal. Expect to lose your ability to think critically and to pay attention soon.

South beach diet is retarded.

If you want to lose weight,

DONT
CUT
CARBS

Eat healthy, drink a lot of water, and exercise.

I've never done SBD, but I have done Atkins, so I know that when you cut down on carbs so drastically like that, your energy level will go down. That explains the exhaustion and weakness. The constant hunger is also because of the carbs because carbs fill you up with fiber, which keeps you satisfied for long periods of time. A way to cure that is to eat protein (meat) if it fits into your day's worth of food. These things should only last 3 or 4 days, if that. If it goes on longer, that diet probably isn't for you.

I'm not quite sure about the depression, that's mental, but the irritability can be caused by all of the other symptoms messing you up. I know I was pretty pissy the first day of Atkins eating a mere 20 g of carbs the entire day.

Hope that helps!
