i just started for the 1st time last month. and it's been over 35 days and i haven't bled or anything! All i'm getting is the clear stuff [i guess that's called discharge...not sure.] well i keep getting worried it's just going to burst out and i'm not going to know its coming. Is it just irregular? and sticking a tampon up there..not being on my period would it do any damage?

It may even decide not to come for a month or two. This is nothing to worry about! It is very rare for a girl to have a regular period right from the start. Don't worry about everything coming out at once. It won't. It's not backing up in there. Your entire cycle is just being delayed. It'll always come out at the same speed: pretty darn slow. If you're really worried and feel like you need something there to catch it just in case, don't wear tampons. Carry them around with you, but to catch it, use a pad. You can get them in really tiny sizes so you wouldn't even notice that you were wearing one. Tiny is all you'd need. It's not like you'd be wearing it for very long until you put the tampon in. Wearing a tampon probably wouldn't do any damage, but it would get very uncomfortable. The "clear stuff" is discharge. You'll get a lot of that halfway through your cycle (right in between periods) and possibly a lot of it again right before you get your period. If you miss a period the discharge will probably still come. Don't worry about the discharge. It's just there. [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]
ductape_n_roses answered Tuesday May 8 2007, 12:10 am: Well, it will definitely be irregular for at the least of 2 years. After that, it should sort itself out or you can go to the doctor's and ask if they can put you on the pill so your periods can get regulated. [If this confused you, just trust me on this].
And it is pretty icky so use a pantiliner [sp?] and just carry around pads/tampons with you at school. Shove htem in your bag or a purse. And if you don't have any on hand, I'm sure the school nurse will have some in the clinic bathroom.
And putting a tampon while you're not on your period is not such a good idea. It would hurt like crazy to take it out because it's going to be dry. And just think: having something up in there for no real reason just doesn't give you that whole sanitary feeling. So wear a pantiliner and carry around pads or tampons with you at school just incase. [ ductape_n_roses's advice column | Ask ductape_n_roses A Question ]
killerface answered Tuesday May 8 2007, 12:09 am: Ahh, no worries. You'll be irregular for a while [even up to like, 5 years, some say.] Discharge is normal, I assure you.
But as for the not knowing when it's coming-- I'd probably wear a pad right before you think you're going to get it, because you never want to put yourself at the slightest risk of TSS [toxic shock sydrome] which occurs when a tampon's been in too long. [which shouldn't be more than 6-8 hours] [ killerface's advice column | Ask killerface A Question ]
Ashumms answered Tuesday May 8 2007, 12:08 am: Since you have only had one period before it is perfectly normal not to be on a regular cycle. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to use a tampon when you're not on your period. It would most likely be uncomfortable when you take it out and may even hurt because it isn't saturated. If you're afraid of starting at an embarassing time, use panty liners. You'll be able to feel when you start, so you can excuse yourself and go to the bathroom to insert a tampon then.
