Well, it depends on the kind of tampon you use. What I would suggest is buying a box of tampons (probably Playtex SlimFits if it's your first time, or anything else with a plastic applicator). When you open the box, there will be a piece of paper with instructions, frequently asked questions, and even pictures to show you exactly how to do it.

Most of the time they're used to stop the flow of blood from a vagina, but I use them to stop runny noses.

Put the tampon at the entrance of your vagina while the plastic is still on it. Insert the tampon (with plastic still on) into your vagina until the part where your fingers are supposed to be hits the entrance. Now use your index finger to push the skinny tube into the larger tube to insert it into your vagina. This is the part that will actually absorb the blood. Hope I helped!
