I am 13/F and I want to redecorate my room for high school. I dont have a high budget so I was wonderring if anyone had ideas of things I could MAKE for my room that would look cool. I love polka dots and the colors lime green/blue if that helps. Thank You
This way, they can be removed later when you get bored with the look or colors and want to change. No painting required, but you can paint the trim a color in the sheet design to play up the dramatic effect.
Find polka dot sheets! Or plain colors (the shade of your choice of lime green or blue) and one wall can be one color, and another wall can be a different color if you want (or all the same)!
If you have carpet, try adding a throw rug in color, pattern, texture you want...ROUND throw rugs can be polka dots!
If you have tile or lineoleum floors, then you can paint (if parents will let you) polka dots on the floor. Use a large can or round garbage can as a pattern or anything large and round to draw the circle then paint them. Lacquer paint is best for floors.
Continue the lime green and blue, and keep the lime green theme the exact same shade, but maybe VARY the same blue family with different shades and hues, from lighter to darker blue for an eye appeal to draw your focal point to a certain area. (remember blues vary; some blues have greenish tint in it and some don't but have black tint changing the shades from teal to sky blue and indigo blue...so if you want baby blue, be sure to stick with that baby blue family in your different shades)
Throw pillows of both or same colors, and if you want polka dots for pillows, you can buy paint for fabric and paint polka dots on them. Maybe little ones for varying sizes of polka dots in the room.
OR, you can buy ROUND throw pillows in lime greens and blues and use them as the POLKA DOTS on your bed! So the pillows become the polka dots themselves.
Anything ROUND can be a "polka dot" itself, so look for ROUND accessories!
Use a nice white for other assessories and background items to offset the colors and space them.
Even your local dollar store(s) have great finds that look like they came from Pier One Imports!
Don't get in a hurry and rush around shopping and buying and settling on something or anything, but get your basics and begin the decorating, then chill out and as you go to the mall or discount stores or even grocery stores over a few weeks, you'll accidently see and find items that'll fit in perfectly! When you see it-- you'll know.
Try adding one more color....add a little bit of hot pink in some accessories to spruce up the lime green and blue. Just enough here and there to liven it and make it your own. (maybe the wall trim painted a hot pink ;)
How about hot pink lips that's a pillow? And if you have the room to spare, use these crazy pillows (bigger the better) in a corner on the floor to sit on with friends or whatever! Great seating for company. [ AskJR's advice column | Ask AskJR A Question ]
DaAdvicePerson answered Monday April 30 2007, 8:52 pm: If you don't already know how to sew, take a few lesons. You then could sew your own curtians, bed sheets, etc... (it costs less if you sew it yourself)
You then could get some pictures that you like and make a collage and hang it up in your room as a poster.
If you do not mind, go to a thrift shop or a garage sale for a new desk or bookshelf. you can paint it how ever you like (lime green with blue polka dots)
Or...you could take all of the stuff you do not need and create a garage sale...you should earn some hundreds.
orphans answered Monday April 30 2007, 8:47 pm: put a border around your room in the center of the wall (white?) and paint the bottom blue and top lime green. you could put white polka dots all over if you want. i suggest a daybed. they're awesome. themes= oldies (like 50's with records/albums on the wall!), hawaiian, disco, preppy, music, colorful, etc. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
modelkate11 answered Monday April 30 2007, 8:41 pm: go to a craft store and buy a large canvas. then buy some of your facorite color paints. use household items that you are allowed to get some paint on and make different shapes in paint. for example i have a painting in my room that i did where i put masking, or painters tape in random directions all over the canvas and painted each of the little boxes uncovered by the tape a different color. when you pull the tape up it has a really awesome affect with the white backround that was under the tape. or to make polka dots, take a bottlecap and trace around it all over the canvas then paint the circles. put your painting over your bed. canvases are fairly cheap. one that is about 24 x 18in is around $10 depending on what kind you get. then you can just buy some new accent pillows that are you favorite colors and put them on your bed, or if you have a chair in your room. if you have wood floors add an area rug. hope i helped
CHiCKENxNOODLExSOUP answered Monday April 30 2007, 8:39 pm: okay so heres how i did my room.
my fav. colors at the time were lime green/pink.
so i did every other wall pink and green. and the green walls had pink polka-dots and the pink walls had pink polka-dots.
i of course, loved it at first. but now i absolutely hate it.
so i suggest that you dont do your room your fav. colors because seeing them everyday on your walls makes you become sick of them.
