Having an actual boyfriend or girlfriend is simply stating that he/she is seeing ONLY you. And not dating others. [ Exquisitechick's advice column | Ask Exquisitechick A Question ]

except if you're younger, than you cant really date, so you just say youre 'boyfriend and girlfriend'.
but when you're dating, you are boyfriend and girlfriend.
dating is just more mature, for more mature people.
