I have Adobe Photoshop 6.0 but I'm sure your photoshop has the same tools. I included pictures in some directions to help you understand =)

Select the Lasso Tool, the Polygonal Lasso Tool (it works easier). Use that to select all the parts you don't want in colour.

OH! In case you don't know how to use it, you click one part of the picture then there's this line that follows you like a web out of a spider's butt. Keep clicking, making sure that the parts you want to change colour is INSIDE the line.

You don't have to select all the parts you want to de-colour, probably just half of the picture and then later do the same to the bottom.

Then to close the shape, click at the corner that you first clicked to finish the shape and close any open parts and let go. The part of your picture should now be selected and dots are moving (kinda) around it.

Again but the picture at the bottom,

The parts you want to change colour should be inside the shape!

Then Press Ctrl and U.

A thing should pop up and on the blue bar it should say Hue/Saturation. In that pop up it should include bars so you can change some in the picture you selected with the lasso tool (Hue, Saturation, Lightness).

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

See the part where it says Saturation and there's a bar underneath with an arrow to move it?

Move the arrow all the way left of the bar so the saturation should now be -100. If it's too dark for you, you don't have to move the arrow all the way left, just less left.

Click ok on the pop up. on the selected part, right click it and click deselect to deselect the shape. Now you're done! ^-^

If you selected only parts on half the picture, now you can do the same with the other half.

Hope I didn't confuse you! Wow this is my longest advice, Please rate =)

I don't really know if we both have the same photoshop, but I hope you do and I'll try my to help!

1. Select the magnetic lasso tool to go around the area you want to select. If the tool gets stubborn and doesn't 'stick' to the place you want it to, then click once and continue till you've covered the entire area you wanted to select in the first place.

2. After the area is selected, leave it like that. Go up to the menu bar/tab (whatever it's called) and select 'image' > 'adjustments'. Then from adjutments (I USE) choose 'color balance'. You can play around a lot there. Also, you can choose 'variations'. That can be fun to explore as well.

I hope I didn't confuse you...

Good luck! Send me a message if you need more help.

=) I'd be more than happy to help you.
