I know what you mean. I had the exact same problem, but with Runescape. I would play for 8 hours, and not even think about it. I knew what I was doing was crazy. It was rotting my brain, and I knew it, but couldn't stop. I'd wake up, play RS until work. Work, while thinking about RS. Go home, and play RS. I even got to the point where I would get frustrated at my family for making me eat dinner, or at my dogs for wanting to eat or go out. It's really hard, but you just have to stop for a while, like thefish said. It was really convenient, for me, because I had lent coming up, and even though I'm not Catholic, I gave it up. I logged on yesterday, and I was like "What in the world, why was I addicted to this silly thing?" Just turn the computer off, unplug it if you have to. If you need the computer for school or something, and you don't need it, delete your Flash Player, or don't upgrade it next time Neopets required it. Another thing that I almost tried (would have if I didn't live with my parents) is go to your ISP and switched it so your internet is dialup, and you're charged by the minute/hour.
clarayow answered Sunday April 15 2007, 8:39 pm: Hey I used to be an avid neopet fanatic. I eat my meals in front of the com, I can't get enough of the shops and the things they sell in neopets, I keep making friends in neopets, I try hard to beat high scores in the games and I even entered the art contest so I can fill my cabinet with trophies.
I don't blame you for this addiction because the website is structured such that it is addicting, if not, how did they manage to get so many users?
one way of breaking this habit is to get sick of it after some time. Just go ahead and play with it, I'll bet you that you'd get sick of it in time to come. That's how I stop playing neopets. The pets were very annoying and they were always hungry and also, not participating in quests and contests is also another way to make it less addicting.
The other way of breaking the habit is to shut off your comp and go out with your frens. If you keep saying no to hanging out with your frens then how the hell are you going to break free of this neopet habit? You know it but you dun seem to even want to make an effort to stop this habit. Go watch tv, play with your friends, decorate your room, go out and play baseball, go to a nearby cafe to chill with your frens, watever . Neopets won't run away but if you quit hanging out with your frens, the friendship will just go downhill. [ clarayow's advice column | Ask clarayow A Question ]
thefish answered Sunday April 15 2007, 8:35 pm: The only way you can stop is just to stop. I've had addictions like this in the past, and trust me, it's possible to get over them. Just say, "Nope. Not gonna do it." Pick up a magazine or a book, or just go outside and take a walk. Try to hang out in a room far away from the computer. When people invite you out, say YES, and go with them! It also helps to completely shut down your computer. Unplug it if you have to. Every time you get the urge to go on neopets, you'll see that your computer is off and decide that you don't feel like turning it on. =) Don't completely ban yourself from it, or from the computer. After you've learned to live without it for a month, go on for a specific amount of time, say an hour a week. If it starts getting out of control again, just start over. It takes patience and self-discipline, but it's worth it.
dubiousness answered Sunday April 15 2007, 8:33 pm: I used to have to same problem! I never thought that I would get non-addicted to it! Are you interested in sports? You can maybe join a sport at school. Or since Summer's coming up, go to summer camp, or vacation somewhere (where there's no computer :P) You'll eventually get drawn away from it, slowly but surely. daddysgirl9262 answered Sunday April 15 2007, 7:49 pm: wellll if you really want to stop.. just try like going on it less and less each day, eventually going down to not playing it at all. or you could block the website. it would probably be harder though to stop once and for all. you could also get involved with a sport or something that could make you more occupied. good luck . xoxo [ daddysgirl9262's advice column | Ask daddysgirl9262 A Question ]
