breathe through your nose to fill up the diaphragm...keep your head completely straight forward...if you can't hit the high notes bring your head down...whatever you do...DO NOT force the note to come out...pushing the note will stop vocal maturity and ruin your vocal cords...you've probably pushed too hard and now your voice is giving out...rest your voice for a while and drink hot tea with honey in it...it's alright if your quiet when you sing...it's natural for people to be...don't push yourself to be louder...you will get louder in time...just take it slowly or this will start to happen again...keep your mouth open...but not yawn size open like someone said...it's killer for your jaws...make sure your throat is open...you'll feel the air flow...and drop your jaw to a comfortable level..keep the mouth rounded for proper o's and never keep your lips close together on vowels...annunciate everything...i promise it will all help...also always warm up before you sing and start singing at mezzo piano...then work your way up louder

i used to be in a singing program.
and one of the things my teacher taught me was that if you ever feel like you might be straining, put your chin down.
usually, when you sing impropperly you tilt your head back.
if you tilt it forward, it becomes sort-of impossible to do.
also make sure that you have good singing posture (shoulders back, standing up straight...)
so, if that doesnt work, i saw that someone else said water.
i suggest room temperature.
because anything cold on your vocal chords, is not a good idea (;

hope i could help :D

you might be sick. if it hasn't always been that way and its like a new thing to not be singing with full support, then you're probably ill. i'd suggest tea. lots of tea. if not, then i would try opening your mouth more to expand the volume in your mouth. try to yawn. notice how big your mouth gets? well thats how big your mouth should be when you sing. (it should feel big in the back of your throat,too). and in between rests of a song, take HUGE breaths so you don't run out of breath. taking a lot of huge breaths while exercising your voice will help you get used to this.

I bet you are not drinking enough water before and in between singing each number. Your throat has to be very lubricated especially if you are trying to sing anything a-cappella or practice without your band behind you.

Your throat will get wrecked fast and just give out. You can permanently ruin your singing voice this way or by pushing too hard to hit notes you cannot hit yet.

The fact of the matter is that it's either not lubricating your throat well enough or that the notes are out of your vocal range for now.

You need to have voice lessons. This doesn't mean you suck at singing or anything like that. It means you need an experienced instructor to help you get to the next level so you can sing those songs and hit notes bang on without hurting your throat.

You need more coaching with breathing and how not to strain your voice so you don't have any more problems. The coach will help you pick songs that suit your personality and what you can do vocally and then start to challenge you.

If you really want to be a singer at some point you'll need a coach. Try and see what drinking lots of water before singing does for you as it may be that simple.
