Italian I was just looking through an Italian dictionary and noticed Ciao means hello.
Does anyone know why non-italian people say Ciao when they're saying goodbye if it means hello?

it means both hello and goodbye. they say that because they think of it as you not leaving, they always want you to come back. thats what my w geo teacher told me. and PAHAHA, to the girl who called you a dumbass. what a butthead. :p ]
In my language [ Croatian ] we say cao for hello & goodbye. We mostly use it for saying goodbye. It means the same thing in few other languages. ]
ciao can mean hello and bye (like aloha) and non-italian ppl probably say it becuase they want to say something different instead of saying bye all the time. ]
Ciao can mean hello or goodbye in Italian :] ]
