do not ever rule out the heel. ever ever ever. it's okay to wear a flat if your date is short, but if your dress is short, seriously, wear a good shoe. a flat is not a good formal shoe. period. go to a store (any store) and try shoes on. the trick to wearing heels is to walk on the balls of your feet with your heels up and practice for a few weeks before the event. you want to break in a heel like any other shoe or else you will feel pain and get blisters. there are too many good comfort heels to eevn consider wearing a flat to a formal dance.

yeah, a lot of people wear flats to formals. and the people who don't wear flats are jealous because you will be more comfy than them! you can get them at dillards, or macy's, or jcpenney's, depending what stores you have where you live.

How about a pair of platform shoes? They're practically as comfortable as flats, just raised & dressier to wear. :)

You can wear heels if you want, actually. Most dances I've been to, we take our shoes off even before we begin serious dancing. There are also gel pads that are made specially to use with heels, and I believe there are a line of heels designed to be comfortable (oprahs a big fan of them)

if you like flats, there fine, but the majority of people will deffinitely be wearing heels.
