S_C answered Monday April 2 2007, 3:20 pm: This was a stupid move on their part. Everyone reacts differently to medicine. One of my friends took less than that and she still had to go to the emergency room and get her stomach pumped. The SMARTEST thing for you to do is call up a local pharmasist and tell someone who knows about medication and have them tell you what you should do. That or call poisen control.
Asking people on here was probably worth it, but people react differently. My first thoughts would be to get the ipecec(sp?), but that stuff isn't any fun and really shouldn't be used unless necessary.
Anyway, call the pharmacy (number is probably listed on bottle, if not look it up in the yellow pages) and ask them what they suggest. If He/She isn't reacting negatively maybe they will be okay. But hey, it's better to be safe than sorry. [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
Razhie answered Monday April 2 2007, 3:20 pm: Call poison control immediately!
1-800-222-1222
That is The National Poison Control Center. If you live in the states call them.
Midol and Ibuprofen have very similar active ingredients. That many pills, depending on the strength could be a rather serious overdoes. Symptoms of overdosing on ibuprofen include vomiting, profuse sweating, severe abdominal pain, seizures, confusion, sedation, insomnia, hallucinations, and an irregular heartbeat. That last one is life threatening, so get the person to call poison control. Only a person with appropriate training will be able to tell you if what they did was simply dumb or if they need to call an ambulance. [ Razhie's advice column | Ask Razhie A Question ]
christina answered Monday April 2 2007, 3:10 pm: Well, since they took 16 pills, I'm sure they'll be okay. I have taken 16 or more pills once & all I did was get sick. I just felt nauseated, and I slept for a little & I woke up and I was fine. But overdose is different for everyone. Some people just get sick like I do, and other people have to go to the hospital & get their stomach pumped. Or, they might become dependent on that amount of pills & if they don't take a lot next time, they'll get sick because their body isn't used to small amounts.
Why did he/she do it? If they did it to commit suicide, the hospital might put them in the psych ward, because they wanted to do that to me when I went, but they didn't. I would just go to the hospital with them just to be safe. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]
