im a slacker

Question Posted Sunday April 1 2007, 4:01 pm

i am a slacker, all i want to do is socialize which is normal for most teenage girls. But, my grades in school are far from adverage. Honestly, i would love to be able to have alright grades so that way i wouldnt be in so much crap with my parents along with the worry of failing out of 10th grade. My parents have some help teacher on my case he never leaves me alone even when i was doin well last semester he bothered me, i hate this guy. Along with that i am constantly faced with the critisms of my parents and half the time i am completely ignored even when i try to speak. The other day my friend told me my mom called hers and said "two more years and she is is out of here."Take that as you will but, it hurt me. I went through a stage where i would run away because at one point my dad use to physically abuse me therefore i ended up in counciling and my parents have me as a registered run away(last year) but i grew out of that and now i just find myself trying to humor them. The problem is it is putting my mental health at risk. i am pretty convinced my parents are tryin to manipulate me. I dont think they want me to grow up and the problem is i feel like no one can help what should i do?
ps. im already in consuling.

Get back on track with school! If you do fail, and you keep going at this rate.. you're going to end up not going to college and still living with your parents. Do you want that? I dont think so. So... try your hardest in school, doing whatever it takes to focus on your studies and socializing later. Im not telling you to become anti-social but obviously, there is a limit. Oh, the teacher is going to stay on your case until he can see that you dont need to be hassaled to do good. Even if you were doing good one semester, he was on your case because he didnt want you to slack off again. You may hate him now, but in the end, he was just trying to be a good teacher. As for your parents, It doesnt sound like they dont want you to grow up, they are probably just worried about you and your grades. Good luck:)

I understand you're already in counseling, but it's obviously not helping if the problems are still there. Your counselors are supposed to help you think of solutions to your problems so they can be solved. Your counselor is not doing his/her job correctly, and you should probably get a new one that will.

I'm a slacker too. I procrastinate constantly. I rather be on the computer, listening to music or watching tv than doing my homework. And at school, I rather be sleeping than do the work my teachers give me. I failed most of my classes, and only have faith in my electives to get some credits this year. Don't make the same mistakes I did. I completely regret skipping school, and throwing my homework away, or not doing it. Because I'm about to repeat the 9th grade. I should be in 11th grade next year, but because I fucked up this year & last year, I'm not. I'm gonna be in 9th grade again. And you think I would've learned from last year & got my ass in gear this year. I completely regret not doing my shit right, and next year I'm probably gonna drop out [to get my GED, so I'm not giving up on school all together] because by the time I graduate I'll be 20-21 years old. I hate school enough as it is, so I'm not staying that long.

But don't do what I did. If you realize you're gonna fail, that should be enough to get you in gear to do your stuff. Just come home, do your homework, & study a ton. Work real hard, and even if it kills you, do what it takes for you to pass. Talk to your teachers about extra credit so maybe you can get your grades up higher. If not, you're gonna fail hun.

School is really important at this stage in your life. I don't know what you plan on doing in your future, but if college is a possibility, then you'll need good grades if you want to go to a 4-year college. It's not too late to change your study habits and increase your GPA, but if you are already stuck with a low GPA, there is always community college.

I understand how having a social life is essential in high school, but so is managing time for school. Try to work in some extra time to go to school early and do homework in the library. You could try to do homework and study during lunch in the library, too. The best thing for you to do is find friends to study with, which would help your grades and allow you to be with friends.

About your parents. I suggest having the same mindset as them: only 2 more years and you're free from them. You can get an apartment with some friends or live in a dorm while attending college, or join the military if that's your thing.

Ask your counselor about what I've suggested, and maybe he/she can say what he/she thinks about it.

Sometimes I have trouble studying or doing my homework...so I listen to music for a while or play a game or something. Then I go back to studying. If that still doesnt work try listening to music as your studying. Or have noise in the background.

Hope I helped
Good luck
