"Emo/goth" styles?

Question Posted Friday March 30 2007, 1:24 am

What, exactly, qualifies as "gothic" or "emo" clothing in high school? I like a lot of different styles, and I like black clothes, skulls, chains and such but I'm not a gothic or emo person... I don't want to send the wrong idea or upset people by seeming like a poser and putting down their style or whatever... but I also want to wear the clothes that I like.
Are there rules to this that I should know about?

here's a link to a image search on goth/emo clothes, so thats what it thinks:[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

but most goth clothes are classified with chains, Tripp pants, and anything bought at HOT TOPIC.

I love hot topic, but I also shop at Aeropostale, you should just be yourself, dont worry about the brand of clothes, but if you are that worried stray away from hot topic.

It's all different for different schools.
It's just mainly black/dark clothes. Lacy, frilly, dark colored clothing. Stripes, checkered, blah blah. Combat boots. Knee high socks. Wristbands. Chains. That's what it was in middle school for me.. High school.. it's just all different now.

You shouldn't care. If you like the clothes, then wear it. :D People shouldn't be upset about it unless you act like the stereotypical "goth/emo". It can be offending. I don't understand why others would be upset anyway. It's just clothing, it has nothing to do with them. They didn't make the style up. It's been around for years, so rock it.

You can start off small... just black shirts and dark jeans.. and work your way up so the change doesn't.. give you unwanted attention.. like 'poser' [but i'm sure, people in high school have matured]

There shouldn't be rules to what you wear.
Wear what you like
and what feels comfortable for you.

That's pretty much it.
