ok i write alot of poems about my good/bad life experiences and i read them to my friends. all of the friends that i have read them to say that i should get them published. im not trying to be cocky but i do think that my poems are good too. my question is who could i send my poems into so that they can get published, or even looked at by a professional? also i am 14f if that helps. lol thanks in advance
It's really good. You enter contests, you get your own page of poetry, and you get opportunities to be published, and TO WIN MONEY. If you're really good, they'll offer you an Editors Choice award or some awards given that you have to purchase in order to receive. It's an honor.

Those guys are a bunch of cheats, and what they do is they will lie to you. They will tell anyone who subimts anything that their poem is brilliant. Then they will ask you to order the anthology you will be put in. If you dont pay the money, they remove your poem. The book is not sold anywhere else, as far as anyone could determine, they just take the cash from gullible aspiring poets thats all.
I fell for their crap back years ago. Its a money making scam basically, where they deceive you in varying degrees all the way through. Just so you know. Edit: and as you can see with the answer above mine, its pretty widespread. Here is a link to a more detailed explanation:
You can also find legitimate contests online. You need to research a little, and avoid the things that usually pop up at the top of the page e.g. poetry.com.
Otherwise years ago I was part of a poetry group on deviantart.com. They had a number of people there that would look at and critique your work (but you needed to find them and join the community if memory serves to avoid the usual "hey dats a funky poem" kind of comment). Then they would have weekly exercises where you submit a poem according to a specific form and stuff like that. Might be worth looking into.
DearAbby92 answered Monday March 26 2007, 12:54 am: Look into things at your school. My teacher entered me in a state poetry contest and I even got an honorable mention and was published in a book. That helped my writing a lot actually, I've been published many times after that as well.
If you are considering writing a poetry book, you'd have to find an agent or send your work to a publishing house.
christina answered Monday March 26 2007, 12:47 am: I would suggest www.poetry.com. It's a site where you post your poetry, and if it's good, the site sends you letters & whatnot, and you get to be in a contest.
But, I think they do that for every poem that's submitted, because everytime I submitted a poem [even if it was horrible, or whatever] they'd send me a letter. They sent my brother letters too.
But, I'd ask your english teacher. He/she might know a place that you can send it to. I'm pretty sure they'd be interested in helping you if you pitched them the idea. =) [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]
