My 18th bday is coming up in August. I live in Louisiana so its hot and inhabited by mosquitos. I'm inviting about 20 people. Mostly girls, but some guys. I want something mature and fun. Nothing that involves drinking, smoking, kissing, or anything childish. I'm having the party outside. I just have no idea what to do at the party. I need major advice. Also, I'm on a budget.
Any help is appreciated.

At non-themed parties people who don't like dancing tend to get bored so wil start acting childish and causing trouble, will maybe try to set up kissing games or will smoke/get drunk, if you keep them busy and interested with a theme it will stop them from being bored and keep them occupied.
If you're having an outdoor party you need to have a theme that can work or works best outdoors, here are some ideas:
Animals: People can dress up as their favourite animals and you can make outside lok like a forest.
Egyptian: For this you can make invitations out of black construction paper and glue gold triangles on the front so they look like pyramids and you can also stick stars above the pryamids. You could try and get some models of sphynxes and out them around the garden, but if you can't find any then you could make some papier mache models yourself. A syphnx is like a siamese cat which Egyptians used to worship. Buy fabric samples that look egyptian so you can hang them over garden chairs. You can aso stick painting or pictures (these could just be pictures of Egypt from the internet ut behind glass or in frames) of Egypt and stick the around any fences or walls of sheds you have. See if anyone you know has gold/bronze cushions or buy them from a charity shop. You can put them on chairs or if they're big enough, lay them on the ground for epople to sit on. Gold/bronze tablecloths are good too.
For food you can have flat bread with dips, shish kebabs, stuffed grape leaves and marzipan deserts.
Look to epople like Cleopatra for ideas on how to dress and play epgyptian music for some of the time.
Hawaiian: Find fake flowers and hang them around chairs and if you have a pool put them in there. Stick tropical pictures around and exotic fabric samples over chairs. Have a log fire and put marsmellows out so people can roast them on the fire.
Serve drinks in coconut shells and ask people to dress up in beach wear or Hawaiian skirts. Play Hawaiian music as guests arrive and play limbo.
orphans answered Sunday March 25 2007, 3:41 am: Have a theme party, like hollywood, beach, fashion, funny, spanish, patriotic, safari, western, 50s/60s/70s/80s, oriental, colorful, stars, color themes, etc. Or you could get everyone to bring a funny gift home-made gift also, to trade with EVERY one (draw numbers) to make it funner. Or you could take out the water hose and get dirty in the mud (slip-n-slide, surfboard, bathing suits, etc). Treasure hunts are always fun. Kareoke.
