first time tampon

Question Posted Friday March 9 2007, 2:09 pm

14/f
Ok well yesterday I got the courage to ask my mom if I could use tampons instead of pads, cuz well I play volleyball and so she said yeah i could, so we bought the Playtex Sport Tampons Regular.
Is that a good brand to start off with?
Well anyways, I think i got the main idea of how to put a tampon in... so correct me if i'm wrong

first you put the first part into the vagina, and then push in the second part inside of the first part, then take out the first/second part (they are inside of each other) and the string should be coming out of your body.

is that correct? tell me if thats wrong and how to do it.

Also another question is... (might be really stupid) Where do you put the tampon in?

like I know theres the butt hole where you poop, and then theres like a flab of skin where the pee comes out... but where do you put the tampon in?
like i can't bend down and see the hole, so how do i know if i'm putting the tampon in the right spot? I read the directions and they say i have to insert it 45 degrees angle, so how would it look like? Like would the back of the tampon be closer to your front? or back?

IDK i'm so confused... I had the courage to ask my mom if i could use tampons.. but I am REALLY uncomfortable to ask her how. and like ask her to show me.
plz help me!!!
thanks soo much!

Oh and how long are you supposed to keep tampons in maximum? 8 hours is ok??

Well, first of all, yes, that is how you put in a tampon.
Second, (and it's not a stupid question, it can be confusing if you don't know your body), you have to feel down there to know where to put it. If you want to start from your butt hole, just lightly put your finger on it (you can wash you hands later) then go upwards, towards your stomach and there should be another hole not too far away and that is where you put the tampon in. Although, when you first put it in, if you have not had sex yet, there is something called a hymen which sort of sheathes the opening of your vagina. It may feel a little uncomfortable when you first push past that part.
When it says 45 degrees, the tampon should be aimed towards your lower back, but inside of you. So it'll be more towards your back. And your hand should be almost in between your butt cheeks.
You should not leave your tampons in for a long time, like while you sleep. You might want to change a tampon before 8 hours, normally a you should only leave a tampon in for 4-8 hours.
Hope I helped!

i have heard that the playtex sport tampons arent as good as they are advertised. you have the way of putting it in correct but you have to make sure the applicator is in until the edge of the finger grip (on the end of the outer tube) is right at the opening of the vagina. to tell you the truth there is only one hole the tampon can fit in. your pee comes out of the urethra, a different part than your vagina. the back of the tampon would be closer to the front and the front of the tampon which is the round end would be towards your back. the longest you can keep a tampon in is 8 hours. if you leave it in longer than that you can get TSS or Toxic Shock Syndrome.

The "hole" where you put the tampon in is really tiny and punctured into your hymen, that flabby circle of skin between your anis and your "pee hole" (lol). Or you could have more than one hole, or none at all (this is actually a rare medical condition that my friend had... though you don't hve to worry about this). To put the tampon in, look for where you see blood coming out of the hymen, and push at a 45 degree angle - basically point up, but angle the tmpon slightly horizontal. Arching your back or leaning bckwrds a little bit helps. It may be a little tricky to put the tampon in your first time, but after a few tries you'll get the hang of it (and yes, you are right about the first part =] )
You can keep tampons in for 8hours but I would recommend you change them more often, like every four, just to keep yourself feeling fresh and to keep the tampon from irritating your skin. Remember that if you wear it for any longer than this, you are putting yourself at risk for tss (toxic shock syndrome), a rare but fatal disease marked by headaches, fevers and nausea... not fun. Because of this, if you do sleep for more than eight hours a night, you may not want to wear it then.
For more information, no matter how awkward you feel in asking your mom, she went through the exct same thing yourge nd Im sure would love to help! As well, many tampon packages come with digrams to further help you out.
Good luck!

You put the tampon behind the pee hole but in front of the butt hole. Right in the middle between the two holes. In the hole the blood is coming out of. Look at the diagram in the tampon box. I sit on the toilet and just push it straight up. Sit up straight on toilet while inserting.
you're putting it in right. You push the first part in the second part and the tring hang out so it can be removed. To remove you just grab the string and pull it straight out.
I think you should use the slender regular size cause they are just for virgins and teenagers. I'm an adult and I still use them. The ones with plastic applicaters are easier to insert than the cardboard applicaters. The cardboard applicaters hurt.
Understand why you don't want to ask mom to show you. It goes up the same hole a baby comes ou of.
How long you leave it in depends on how heavy you're bleeding. I've never left one in for 8 hours. Don't want leaks or accidents. The longest I've ever left one in is 5 hours. Take an extra 1 or 2 to school with you. You can change them in the girls bathroom. I can change in less than 30 seconds.
Don't flush the tampon applicator. Put it in the trash can.
Welcome to womanhood.

all playtex tampons are definitely good to start out with, plus it's plastic which makes putting it in easier. and yup, your right about the insertion part. well you actually have 3 holes. your pee hole, vagina (where you put the tampon in) and your anus (butt hole, lol) here's a diagram on how your vagina looks like (don't worry its a drawing lol)

also the instructions included inside the tampon box should help too. and yes, 8 hours is the maximum. good luck with it and i hope i helped!
