Sweater

Question Posted Wednesday March 7 2007, 10:21 pm

KEEP IN MIND TOM SAID IN THE NOTE HE THINKS SHE IS A SMALL, AND SIZE 5 OR 1
and HE EVEN SAID HE WAS JUST THROWING OUT NUMBERS TO MAKE A COMPARISON. HERE IS
THE STORY: Tom and Margaret were sitting in a diner. Tom noticed that Margaret was wearing an oversized coat:

Tom said (as he touched her sweater): "Size 10 body in a size 12 sweater.
Margaret: "Do you think I am a size 10?"
Tom said: "No. All I am trying to do is make a comparison that the sweater is bigger than your body. I could have easily said size 50 body in size 52 sweater or I could have said a size 100 body in a size 102 sweater or even size
300 body in a size 306 sweater. I am just throwing out numbers"

However, the next day when Tom saw Margaret he handed her a note that he had written: Margaret is not extra, extra, large, Margaret is not extra large, Margaret is not large, Margaret is not medium, and has never been medium. Margaret is small and has always been small. Margaret I THINK you ARE a size 5 and if size 5 would be considered a large size than I think you ARE a size 1.;

Margaret told her friends about the sweater incident in the diner and showed them the note Tom gave to her and her friends said to her that: (1) in the diner all Tom was doing is trying to show that the sweater is bigger than the body; and he does not think she is higher than a size 5; MY QUESTION: DO YOU AGREE WITH MARGARETS FRIENDS

Hey, I'm female and I still have trouble judging sizes!

I'm worried about Margaret. She sounds like she has pretty major body issues. She's possibly underweight (size 5s, size 1s, whatever she is, are very small), and she's very concerned with people's perceptions of her body. She seems insecure and she doesn't need to be--I bet she's beautiful!

I wish Margaret could understand that not everything in life is about how much she weighs. There's so much more, things that could give her the happiness she deserves.

But I believe that Margaret's friends are entirely right. Tom doesn't really know much about sizes, and he thinks that Margaret is small.

Yes.
I also think Margaret shouldn't be too stressed as Tom is basically just showing that he doesn't understand Womens' sizes... and why should he? :)
