I`m sick and out of school, but i got my homework, and in my math class, i don't know how to do these. Could someone PLEASE describe in GREAT detail on how to do it? Please?

Directions: identify the slope and y-intercept of the line with the given equation. Formula: y=mx + b. Problem: y=-1/3x + 6

i love these problems! okay, so i'm guessing that you already know what the slope formula stands for. y=mx+b. m is the slope (rise divided by run). b is the y-intercept. so when you take the equation y=-1/3x+6... -1/3 is the slope because it takes the place of m. 6 is the y-intercept because it takes the place of b. if you need some more info on this, please leave it in my feedback or something and tell what level math you're in so i can figure out how to explain it. and here's some more explanation anyway: okay, with y=mx+b, that means that you can take a set of points, like (3,4) for example, and they will fit the equation. and you kind of figure it out from there by plugging in the x and the y. for example: 4=m3+b. if you know the slope, and let's just say that the slope is 1/1, then you can work it out like this: 4=(1X3)+b... which simplifies to 4=3+b. easy, right? so then you would solve for b (y-intercept) and b equals 1. if you need more help, please let me know!

Hey..we're doing this too, and I don't really get it much-but I do get it to the extent that I can answer your question.

Y=mx+b...So,
1/3 is the number IN FRONT OF the x.
So, it's M. M=slope.

6 is the y-intercept. It's the number at the end of the equation. [B=y-intercept]

If you still don't get it, feel free to IM me @ Viva La Jam Ox.

Good luck :]

M is the slope. B is the y-intercept.
So, you would put your point on [up 6]
and then go up one then 3 to the left, keep doing that then connect the dots.

y=mx+b

m= slope
b= y-intercept

therefore

the slope is -1/3

and the y-intercept is 6

all you have to do is look at the equation. ha. sorry i didnt give great detail, but yeah that's how you figure that one out.
