Yo.
So you could like call home or write letters. If it's ok with family or the school you could go from like the 17-18 or 19. You should just hang with friends and stuff. I get homesick a lot too.
I'mnot saying no to go or something but you might wanna concider staying home.
Hope I helped!

Okay I went to a sleep away camp and here are some things that I did to not be homesick.

-I wouldn't bring a picture of your family because that just would make you think about them a lot and make you miss them more.

-Bring a cellphone and call them whenever you feel like you are going to be upset. It is best that you talk to them over the phone than talk to friends who don't always know what's going on.

-Try to stay busy. Don't completely forget about your family, just don't try to think about them too much. Once you start to think about your family, then you will feel homesick again. Have fun with your friends and make the most of the day.

-Talk a lot during dinner to keep your mind off missing your family. This would keep your mind off of what you miss and keep it on the moment.

Have fun in Washington DC and I hope my advice helped.
