Question Posted Thursday February 22 2007, 12:30 pm
i woke up this morning with a stiff neck and it hurts really bad. i cant move but head to the left at all or it kills. what can i do to help this!? i need all the help i can get, thanks.
I think it is mainly due to when you sleep, you slept the wrong way. That is why your neck is stiff because the muscles and tendons there are strained. It is just like when you work out and put excessive pressure on your legs and arms- the next day they'll feel sore. But in this case- you neck is tired out from being in the wrong position through the entire night. [ StrawB3rryz's advice column | Ask StrawB3rryz A Question ]

I would just get a lot of sleep, and take some advil. keep it hot. maybe sleep on one of those pillows you plug in until they get hot or a heating pad. take a bubble bath. be careful when your bbrushing your hair so you dont pull at your neck. dont worry to much youll be fine!

Then, just sit on the couch, make sure you aren't turning your head, and watch TV. Keep the ice there for at least 15 minutes, but no more than a half hour. Then, replace the ice with a heating pad and continue keeping your neck still. The ice will loosen the neck muscles and the heat will relax them. This should make the pain go away. An aspirin or two would also help. If it doesn't go away by the end of the day, a doctor would be a great person to see about it. [ sugarplum07's advice column | Ask sugarplum07 A Question ]
dia answered Thursday February 22 2007, 1:42 pm: first off..depending on how long youve had this..i'd go and see a doctor!
if you wake up with it and its still hurts as much as it did today, i think you should see a doctor..if you dont, and it hurts the day after...you know you NEED to make an appointment. youll probably be prescribed something, or they'll tell you what to do.
in the meantime: keep it warm eg..wear a scarf, take a bath or shower too to relieve the muscles (as this is whats creating the pain).
if you hava barley bag...i think thats what theyre called...theyre a long bag full of bean type things used to relieve injuries like this, that would help alot! (put it in the microwave for about a minute)
