Ah, those would be your oblique muscles.. or love handles.

Do loose fat there you would do cardio (anything like running, walking, jumping jacks, swimming, ect. basically anything that gets your heart rate up) exersizes, and core (stomach) work outs. I would do basic crunches, other variations of crunches but ESPECIALLY OBLIQUE CRUNCHES. Those are targeted for that area. Basically like down on your make and bend your legs to one side (both at a time). Do several repetitions but only as much as you can. Don't over do it.

This is an oblique crunch.
