i dont really understand what it means to ask someone to be your valentine. are you asking them to be your g/f or b/f? or are you just asking them if they will say they're your valentine? and if they say yes, what does that mean? i dont understand the point of asking someone to be your valentine

Well. People say a long time ago There was this man and his name was Valentine. He was a prisoner and was ready to brought out for execution. He really really loved this girl ,because many people believe she was the jailor's daughter who always visited him.(sorry i don't no her name though) The night before he was executed he wrote a sorry letter to her and express how much he was sorry, how much he loved her, and how important she was to him. Then he signed his name "From your valentine" (this is why we use this saying today)
Many people have opinions on valentine's day, what it's for and what's it about. In my opinion "be my valentine" means that you really love them ,and they are extremely important to you. That is why valentine is a day to express love and feeling for someone. You can express it secertly or just be open about it. "be my valentine" doesn't have to mean to ask them out, but since its a day of love, it can be.

But it doesnt mean you two are going out. They have to actually ask you out on a date or to be bf/gf.
I think thats the general deffinition, but it might be different in some cases.
BLONDE911 answered Tuesday February 13 2007, 10:39 pm: from my understandings, its a way to tell someone you like them. Lets say a boy likes a girl but is too shy to ask them out.. and valentines day is coming up.. its an excuse to say i like.. be my valentine.. but there not really commiting yet.. gah it is confusing!
im kinda confused too..
i hope this helps
