Hi,
My school prom is coming up soon and I have been told that a boy is going to ask me to go with him, this boy told me he liked me a few months ago and I told him I already have a boyfriend (but I don’t really) because I don’t like him in that way. After he told me, we stopped talking to each other because it was awkward, but recently we started talking again. Now, so soon after, he is going to ask me to the prom and I don’t know what to say. If I say yes I’m worried about what he will expect, for example do I have to stay with him the whole time and would I have to dance with him, because I would find that really awkward. Please could you help me with my decision.
Thanks

No you are NOT expected to stay with your date the whole time because you may want to dance with some other friends and he may as well, but do not just leave your date for the whole dance, that would just be rude. Wait and see maybe there is another boy you would LOVE to go to the prom with, if not then ask someone YOU would want to go to. Don't feel pressured into going with someone you feel it will be akward with. Remember its YOUR prom =) [ PolishLaska's advice column | Ask PolishLaska A Question ]

To accept and then do your own thing and ignore him would be rude and selfish. He would be more hurt if you did that than if you simply decline.
If you don't want to go with him and know you would feel awkward being his date for the evening, then you need to tell him that you are sorry, but not interested.
It is better to hurt him a little by rejecting his invitation than to accept it and hurt him a lot by stomping on his feelings and pride. [ Brandi_S's advice column | Ask Brandi_S A Question ]
