Question Posted Thursday February 8 2007, 10:22 pm
so i might be starting a job in a few months and its my first job ever haha but im scared i might fall asleep on the job. see i have this thing and everytime i get home from school i feel like just passing out which is weird because i get plenty of sleep during the night. is there anything i can do besides drink energy drinks, sodas,or coffee to keep me up throughout the day and not make me sleepy? thanks in advance

Instead, just try getting a good amount of sleep (7-8 hours.) and eating a snack when you feel hungry. Try a granola bar, or something with fiber & protein. Like, nuts, granola bars, bread, peanut butter, bagels, stuff like that. Also hold off on sugary snacks.
Also, you should try getting a bit of exercise. You may feel tired, but sometimes all you need is a little exercise to wake you up! Try jogging in place for 5 minutes, or running up some stairs. It should make you feel alert and energized.
Of course, the best thing you can do is learn to manage your time in a way that is best for YOU. Don't take on too many assignments or responsibilities. Only accept the ones that you think you can handle. Try to take out at least 10 minutes of your day for some "Me Time." Relax & Breathe. Breathing techniques also can help when you feel tired and overwhelmed. Close your eyes and take deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth, imagine yourself standing in the sun and "awakening" to life. Sounds corny, but it helps. Hopefully it isn't a desk job! If its not, don't worry to much about it. You will be so wired the first few days it won't be a problem. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
