Okay so I'm 15 years old, 5'4", 110 lbs. Normal weight, right? Yeah. My mother keeps giving me a hard time about my eating habits just because I tend to eat one meal and maybe one or two snacks per day. It's not like I want to lose weight, I just don't feel like eating most of the time and I don't get hungry very often. Yet she bugs me about eating all the time. Why should I eat when I'm honestly not hungry and don't feel like eating? That's gluttony, which is a sin and very unhealthy for you. I'm sorry, but I just don't do that or eat when I'm bored. I think it's gross to do that. How can I get her to understand that I'm not anorexic or anything, just not that hungry?

I'm just like you.. 14 5'4 110 lbs. Tell your mom that she can take you to the doctor or something if she would like because if she is going to keep pushing you to eat you're going to throw it up! If you're not hungry then you shouldn't eat and make it known. Tell her you're not going to overstuff yourself and that you're not on a diet. Personally, i think that's insane :)

It's not that she thinks you have an eating disorder, she wants you to be healthy and get the nutrition you need. If you really aren't hungry that much, make sure you take vitamins and eat foods that are good for you when you do eat. That should make your mom happy. Hope everything works out. LadyH answered Tuesday January 30 2007, 8:39 am: I can first off by saying that I am exactly like you. Typically, one meal & a snack does it for me for the day. & I have also been given a hard time about it in the past. Although you are only eating when you're hungry, your body is probably not getting enough nutrients that it needs. I'd suggest eat atleast 2-3 small meals & 3 snacks throughout the day. No one says they have to be a ridiculous amount of food. If you spread out your snacks & meals evenly throughout your day, you have a better chance at saving your metabolism. At first when I started eating a lot less (such as yourself), I never got hungry & lost some weight. But overtime, your body is going to feel like it doesn't know when you're going to eat next if there's a longer time inbetween meals. As a result, hungry or not, your body is going to start storing just about everything you eat to live off until you eat again. In the end, you're metabolism is going to become really slow & you're going to end up gaining everything you eat - even if it's hardly anything. I know you're not hungry, but eating about 4-6 times (snacks or small meals) will keep your body burning calories & never feeling like it's in starvation mode. Since breakfast is important, I'd suggest eating a decent amount first thing in the morning. In a about an hour or two, have a snack like some fruit or granola bar. & have lunch/and or dinner & a snack every couple of hours anytime in between those meals. Even if it's not a lot, eat something to keep your body feel like it's starving, although it may not feel like it to you. And for those lacking nutrients, take vitamins every morning and/or just make sure you're eating something really healthy throughout the day. Hope this helps. :) [ LadyH's advice column | Ask LadyH A Question ]
Alin75 answered Tuesday January 30 2007, 7:11 am: Im afraid your mom is right. Its unhealthy to eat once a day (even with your one or two snacks). In fact, its easier to remain in shape if you eat more often. There are many reasons why what you are doing is bad I will try to go over a few.
You should understand, that one of the reasons you dont get hungry more often is because you have conditioned your body into this bad habit. Your metabolism has been slowed down, which is a normal defensive process the body has when it reckons there isnt a lot of food available.
The reason why that is a bad thing is that the body will also have a tendency to digest muscle stores when in need of energy (since muscle is easier to digest then fat). Loss of muscle has a bad effect on the metbolism as well, so the situation may get worse.
Secondly you are not providing your body with the neccessary nutrients that you need to grow. You are a teenager and in a crucial point in your life. You need plenty of nutrition, both in quantity, frequency and quality.
Finally, eating often will give you more energy. It will let you operate on a higher level, both mentally and physically.
So you see, its not a question of gluttony, but it certainly is a question of health. Your body needs to be fed right. Ideally 4-6 meals evenly spread out over the day i.e. eating every 3 to 4 hours. Each meal being small and balanced (containing all essential macronutrients). Thats the way to a healthy body.
Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear. However, sometimes life is like that and we make mistakes. The bottom line is your mother is looking out for your best interests and she happens to be right. Work with her on this and soon you will feel better I can almost guarantee it.
