Swimming/Tampons

Question Posted Sunday January 21 2007, 9:27 pm

If I had a tampon in during the day, and kept it in while swimming, would I need to take it out? Or can I keep on going afterwards for another few hours until I need to take it out?
Do tampons fill with water when swimming?

Tampons should be kept in only 4-8 hours. And if you go swimming, you should take it out and replace it with a new one. Never leave it after you go swimming. It's just not a good idea.

You should take it out anyway, regardless if you went swimming or not. Tampons should only be in 4-8 hours at the MOST. If more than that, TSS (toxic shock sydrome) can occur. Also, if you went swimming there could be bacteria or your tampon could have absorbed water. Simple answe: Take it out.

You're supposed to change your tampon every 4-6 hours... But if you're going swimming I would change right before going into the pool & right after you get out. Just to be clean & keep the pool completely clean too. It's better to be safe then sorry! And it's only tampons, they're not expenisve so it's not like you'll be wasting money.

It would be best to change your tampon after swimming. Tampons do have a tendency to absorb water.

You should change your tampons every few hours to reduce chances of TSS. You shouldn't keep one in all day. Yes, tampons do fill up with water when you swim and if you don't change it afterwards the string will make your undies all wet.
