Question Posted Saturday January 13 2007, 12:34 pm

I would like to go to new york city, in like march. My mom said she'd take me..but, shes never been there & doesn't know like the area well. Can anyone tell me what its like? We'd wanna go see like broadway plays, & go to china town, to get fake designer purses. & junk like that. Whats it like in NYC? & would we know like how to get around, even if we've never been there? What could I say to get my mom to let me go there? i wanna go realllly bad.

& if you've been there, what are some good places to go to.

Okay i went to NYC last christmas for only 3 days and it was deffinitly not enough. NYC IS CRAZY!! Their is sooo much to see when you go and usually you dont see it all cause theirs just so much. I recomend Time Square i thought it was amazing. And their is this street called 5th Avenue i think and its filled with all the stores and shops :) I didnt go to China Town so idk about that. You can get Trolley/Tour rides and they can show you everything. You should go for atleast 5 days. They sell the fake desinger purses everywhere so that wont be hard to find. Broadway plays are all over and you can get good tickets anywhere. JUst tell your mom that you thought this would be a great way to spend time with eachother because it is! You will have so much fun. :)hope i helped

me and my mom LOVE the city and taking day trips there, we go every summer to see a broadyway show and go out to eat afterwards, we personally like Chevys, or the Espn zone.

Also we have gone to china town numerous times and we LOVE it. Seriiously, chinatown knows fashion its usually always one step ahead of fashion and the best jewlery is there for really really cheap.

you really should go to the city, its an amazing experience. I live in the suburbs New York so we go by train down there. We've driven but its extremely hard to drive in places like Times Square so wear good walking shoes.

Well let me just say that New York City is one of the greatest cities in the world. =) There's so much to do there, it's unbelieveable. I've been there a bunch of times and it's so much fun. It's understandable that your mom isn't that comfortable with going to NYC because it is a huge city with a ton of people and yes, sometimes it's easy to get lost. But, they always have maps of NYC no matter where you go in the city and you can go to kiosks and stuff to find out info. It really is suprisingly easy to go through Manhattan because all of the streets are numbered in order, one after the other, but you still might wanna find maps of NYC. There are plenty of ways to get around in NYC, like the subway, taxis, buses, and other stuff. (You might not want to drive your car through NYC because it's so crowded- it's much easier to put your car in a parking garage somewhere in the city or even to take a train to the city) I'd suggest that you go to Manhattan first, it's a borough of NYC and it's probably the best place to go if you want to see Broadway plays and shop, plus it's where a bunch of tourist attractions are. If you are in Manhattan, I suggest you do thins like go to Times Square and go to the Hard Rock Cafe to eat, go to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, take a walk in Central Park, tour the Empire State Building, take a sightseeing tour on one of those double-decker buses, etc. You said you wanted to go to Chinatown to buy purses... well Chinatown does have very good purses and awesome jewelry at good prices but just to warn you, Canal Street (the purse street) is incredibly crowded most of the time and because of that, it's kind of easy to get lost. So I recommend you stay around the Times Square area for your first trip to NYC. Oh yeah, and you should definetly try to see a Broadway play; Phantom of the Opera, Rent, Hairspray, Wicked, and Movin' Out are all excellent plays. Well have an awesome time in New York, I'm sure you'll have fun!

Wow are you in for a hell of a ride the first time you come here. Fake designer purses are everywhere- you don't have to just go to Chinatown to get those. NYC is extremely simple to get around- there's the East side, West side, Uptown and Downtown the avenues run across from 1st ave over on the East river side over to 11th ave on the West side. Just some ideas- Times Square is on 7th ave in West Midtown around 50th street, The Empire State building is on 5th ave at 34th street, Ground Zero where the trade center stood is all the way downtown on Church St. Rockerfeller Center where NBC's studios are which is where Conan O'Brien and Saturday Night Live and all those are taped and the big ice skating rink is on 5th and 6th aves at 50th street, Carnegie Hall is on 57th street and 7th ave. Just the food will be enough to make you want to stay- if you're in Times Square I recommend you go Stage Deli or Carnegie's on 54th and 7th.

I'll be honest with you- it is a very very intimidating place especially when you have no idea where to go and haven't been here before and muggers and natives alike can spot a tourist from a mile away. Keep your money and cameras in your front pockets, don't spend too much time looking up into the sky at all the buildings and the best way to blend in- keep up the pace with everyone walking; you're going to be astonished at how fast we all walk ;-)

Other than all that- it's the real capital of this country- it's gorgeous and filled with anything that you can imagine; best food, best shows, there's history everywhere you walk- it's just the best city in the world and take it from somebody who's from here, been to a lot of other places and is in the city regularly- there's NO place like NYC. Trust me- you'll love it.
